Looking good guys.
For Duracoat, it takes a little thicker coating than KG Guncoat to "encapsulate" the work. Sometimes this causes it to take on a slightly glossy look. You can do a top coat of any good flat clear (I like Krylon), or do a "dust" coat, of slightly drier paint, sprayed from a distance of about 12-14".
For rubber products, yeah, it's gonna wear, using tan base is a good idea.
If you end up with little dust "hairs", simply rib out softly with a GI toothbrush. They will generally come off without affecting the base coat.
I just figure on semi-annual touch-ups and drive on.
In the end, it will wear. But having the base coat show through just adds to the camo effect, IMHO. Maybe it's not so pretty but hey, it's a working gun, not an internet show gun.

Have you all who have painted your guns both just flat earth tones, and camo patterns, noticed that much better performance of the camo patterns compared to just the earth tones? I mean, its not like you're wrapping the gun in burlap strips, but I get how a camo pattern can obviously be better than just a singe tone. Both are better than the tactical black.

I've found that large patterns work best. It don't take much to make a rifle blend in even from 10yards. If the pattern is too small it might as well be a solid color IMO.
Otis has a good example of what I'm talking about.

Especially at night, viz or NIR. You need a darker color that really contrasts to break it up.

Anyone ever tried Gun Skins? Thinking about trying this because I didn't like how the paint came off on my 15-22's stock with sweat and hoping this might erase that problem, plus it's removable which will help with convincing the wife to do hers eventually (she prefers an all black AR and I don't get why). Considering either the Dark Earth skin or the ATACS-AU skin. All of my gear is coyote brown.

My question is how does it hold up to heat, cleaning chemicals and wear/tear. I will search YT to see if there are any reviews.

Anyone paint a suppressor with Alumahyde? How's it hold up compared to Cerakote or other brands? Does it cook off easy?
