Good job 4track. This has been an excellent thread with lots of good info.
Thoughts on spray paint camo. You hear a lot of static about how paint eventually wears off. Well yeah most any coating is gonna show wear eventually. Some sooner than others. But I think you need to get past it. For recon/surveillance work, which is closely related to us, you need to paint everything. That big black weapon is unacceptable.
The hobby/collectors have a cow when discussing this subject. If they coat their weapons at all, it has to be some custom job that doesn't effect re-sale value. So these guys always bitch and moan about camo coatings wearing off.
So you have decide which camp you're in.

Good point Diz. Worn ARs have anodizing worn off... AKs have the parkerizing (or whatever they call it in commie countries) worn through and you can see bright shiny steel.
All finishes wear.

I got some camo non stick tape, cloth types stuff. spray paint just doesn't work very good through NODs so I'm hooping I can find something that does.

No doubt, just like clothing, any drab color is better then black. Here is an early rifle I painted two-tone with Alumahyde 2:

I've been using KG Gunkote and Duracoat for a few years. Let me know if I can help you out with anything.

This was my first attempt with Duracoating. It turned out "OK" by my standards. I definitely wont attempt to do it on my more expensive firearms until I get some more practice.

Last weekend, I had good weather, so I painted one of my AR pistols, with the SB15 arm brace. [/URL] As I expected, the rubber of the SB15 arm brace does not play well with paint, and one week later, and this AR pistol is now (finally) fully dry. It took over five days of air drying for the paint to fully cure and loose its tackiness on the rubber. Even still, the paint is wearing off of the brace very rapidly. You can see here, the tan color of the brace showing through some of the worn areas. Because I planned to paint it, I specifically chose the tan colored brace for this weapon, so that tan rubber would show, instead of black.

Really, seriously excellent work. It would be great if we were neighbors so I could bribe you to paint my guns!
