I hear you and have thought hard about the Tavor. It's a heavy gun for this role, but not totally off my radar. The sub2K is light and fits my need in this role. It may not be able to shoot 1 moa at a 100yds, but it's pretty accurate on a man size steel torso at that distance. I have my MBR for when I get home, so the sub2K doesn't play that role. My get home routes have me mostly in the woods, but I'll have asphalt to travel on as well. Goal is get moving quick before people start putting 2 and 2 together. Move fast, sleep little and have multiple routes in case I need to go around trouble. Stay in a low profile posture and act dumb. If asked, "I just happened to have my backpack left in my car from hiking last weekend". The sub2K will be concealed in a computer type satchel or under a jacket.

Agreed. I was thinking more for myself. Gives me a common platform, can train on some extra indoor ranges (winter!) that don't allow rifle calibre stuff. I couldn't conceal it anywhere near as well, and perhaps just leaving it setup as a rifle might be better? (Bandoleer thrown in BoB as well..)

The down side to me is I've never trained on a bullpup design, so I'd have a learning curve. Not saying it couldn't be done, just not sure I want to take on that challenge now. Now, the Beretta ARX-100, hmm, that interests me a bit to do more research on. No 9mm, but has 16" and 10" barrels for 5.56 and a 16" barrel for 300 blackout. All are interchangeable without tools.

Oh, I didn't think you'd want to. I'm just looking at your method as something I might steal. As a money saving endeavour, and a commonality of weapons (albeit a slightly different feel to the mags/felt recoil etc) this seems the logical choice if I follow your lead.

That said....I carry a G-19 or a G-23. I have the G-19 mags for CCW and the G-17 mags for SHTF mode. I have a Kel-Tec Sub 2K that takes G-17 mags, and the 33 rounders as well, that I keep in my vehicle in case I need to walk home someday. I have a similar set up for my get-home load out. My EDC is usually a G19 with a G17 mag as my spare. I also have a 9mm Sub2K (G17 version) which gets tossed in the vehicle based on threat level (I’ve sketched out a color code with corresponding “arming order”). The S2K is kept in an old laptop bag with three 33rd happy sticks and one G17 mag w/+3 baseplate. The happy sticks are in a subgun three-mag pouch that I rigged up as a minimalist chest rig with some 1” nylon webbing and various extra plastic hardware I had laying around. The G17+3 mag stays in the gun which is folded for storage in the laptop bag. There’s also a 50 round box of loose rounds in one of the pockets inside the laptop bag. That’s (33x3)+20 = 119 in loaded mags for the S2K and 15+1 in the G19 plus 17 = 33 for the pistol for a total of 152 rds. loaded in Glock mags (plus 50 loose rounds). All mags can be used in the S2K except the single G19 mag in the pistol, and all mags can be used for the pistol. However, because of where I live and work, I don’t leave any firearms or ammo in the vehicle in case I have to cross into enemy territory of visit a Federal facility. Whether I bring my pistol with me on any given day is based on whether or not I’ll have to do either of those things. The S2K only gets added to the mix if the daily threat level calls for it.

It works well for me, and it sounds like for you as well.

I've been eye-ing one of those MP5K pistol clones, with a Sig brace, as a compact get home gun. The number one hurdle for those, is the price. Like $1700, easy. But, one does get a very compact package, with easy NFA upgrade-ability (suppressor, full-auto sear, proper HK PDW style stock), or keep it legally a pistol for everyday concerns; unless, you know, you go into Federal facilities on a regular basis. Plus, slick shit like this:

Having SBRd a Coharie clone I can tell you that they are money pits. I had to change everything out to HK to make it run. Once I did that and custom cut a new lower for the misaligned shelf it ran 100% and I now had $3k into it. I eventually replaced it with a 9.5" 300 whisper and knowing what I know now would not have gone down that path, especially since you don't need a stamp anymore with the sig brace

The model Atlantic Firearms had manufactured for themselves to sell, has been getting good reviews. The Sig brace seems very much a stop-gap in-between a near useless stock-less rifle, and an as legally defined SBR. Frankly, I'm surprised its continued legal grey area has lasted as long as it has, given the current Administration. That being said, I'm all for its use until, or if, that day comes.
