Here is my prototype belt kit, as it presently stands. The belt itself is 1 3/4" (Ty 7) parachute harness webbing, with a CB Cobra buckle. The padding is 1/4" closed cell foam. The shoulder straps are unpadded, two layers of cordura, with 1" webbing. They are attached with a double loop of shock cord, secured with a modified sheepshead knot (two opposing overhand knots). These straps work quite well under a ruck, and also a chest rig (or plate carrier for that matter).

Here's a view of the pouches. Notice the tops of all the pouches are flush with the top of the belt. Well, sort of, the canteen pouches will be replaced soon with my own. The front two mag pouches are my prototype 2-mag pouches. They are totally enclosed for wear on the beltline. Notice they are mounted right at the hip points, with nothing farther forward, so I can prone out no sweat. The next we have 2 x 2-mag pouches of the standard GI 2-mag Molle variety. Then we have 3 standard GI canteen/utility pouches. Currently with two 1 qt canteens, w/cups, and a sustainment load out of coffee, cocoa, soup, with a fold up stove and heat tabs.

I still like to have a belt kit, dog gone it. Of course terrain and situation dependent, but I like working off a beltline, especially when patrolling in the hinter-boonies. I just like the combination of chest rig, belt kit, and assault pack.

I think you're the first guy I've seen not tuck in the top flaps when carrying canteens.

omnivorous: Where the everloving **** did you find a dancing banana? Oh wait. I forgot Rule 34. Diz - Would the water bottle holder take a NATO issued folding shovel? The V-Shaped straps seem like they might be suited. Would definitely be interested to know if they do. What sort of weight are you getting with your fighting load (belt kit only / chest rig only / both) with enough for 24hrs of sustainment?

panzer, if you want a shovel holder, they are almost free. Hell, I have one i'll give you for the cost of shipping. I'm after something in MTP/Multicam with MOLLE fittings. The reason I'm looking at the stuff Diz has there is because the old issued PLCE Entrenching Tool pouches also doubled up really nicely with '58 pattern waterbottles, so if you wanted you could shift water out of a pouch and use it for mission specific gear, and if you needed the ET for something instead you could use that in it's original pouch. A lot of the new stuff is very much a closed, full flap pouch that allows for no use of anything else in there, and the whole multi-use concept is something that's important, for me. (Looking at rejoining as a reserve infantryman - I will still have to 'tow the line' in a lot of ways, but given that I already have quite a bit of previously issued gear, I want to be able to set something up that will work at work, but that I can keep when I get out and it be pretty damned close to what I need for my own purposes.) Thanks for the offer, if you've something that fits the above? Old style PLCE example of the whole multiple use thing;
