Since there is so much of this stuff on the market right now, it makes me wonder just how long it took the QC people at the plant this stuff was made, to realize the incorrect primers were being used. With a 5.45 primer being used in a 5.56 cartridge, it really seems like this stuff is either some experiment to see if production can be streamlined by reducing number of different parts needed in assembly, or these just happen to be some very affordable, yet not admitted to, factory seconds.

According to the importer no one noticed anything until a couple weeks after it was sold to the US marktet. Vympel had outsourced the primers and since they hand tbeen in US market for long time they came back 5.45mm spec. SGAmmo had sold over a million rounds (again according to the importer) when they issued their return offers. I think I observed about 90,000 rds being sold just today (from the "in stock" numbers moving). Previously I think I observed between 300-400k of these discounted returns sold (judging from "in stock" lists) So a lot of this ammo is still out there but not everyone will return it since many folks dont check the internet as religiously as we do. Some poor guy may think he has a SHTF stash of a couple cases and then discover w/o the parts upgrades they are worthless (I hope not but...) I really do have a feeling that the weekly replenishment will lessen and then dry up altogether in the next few weeks if not sooner. Hope I'm wrong.. but this concern made me buy another 3 cases today even though its getting kinda hard on the creditcard.

PS: I was amazed how much ammo was sold within MINUTES of "back in stock" I think I counted about 60,000 rds sold in first hour...

Yeah, of course. I just got my enhance firing pin in the mail today. The first I'll probably be able to get to the range will be the middle of next week.

So Erick, would you suggest that it's fine to just swap out the firing pin for the one for this ammo and just leave it or should it only be a training?

Based on Experiences I had after the original post in this thread I found that for 100% reliability the enhanced firing pin needs to be backed up by a extra power hammer spring such a a Wolffe XP M4 Spring from here www.gunsprings.com/index.php?page=items&cID=2&mID=1&dID=79Look for: COLT AR15/M16, M4/CAR15 SA, XP HAMMER SPRING

I was never able to get the ammo and firing pin tested prior to the Christmas period. I've started another tread to address the matter, and the larger issue as it regards being fit and able enough to handle the contingencies we regularly discuss here.

Have you tested it since? Now that this ammo is clearly not available anymore I wish I had bought more. I did buy quite a bit... but more is better at that price...

I'm currently on rather stringent restrictions. Maybe in a month, it'll even be safe for me to fire a rifle. I wish I could've bought more, but I couldn't justify the purchase at the time. The case I did purchase, will last me quite a while, anyway, as I use low-round count training methods.

Well the Golden Tiger 56 gr FMJ-BT is back in stock with NEW PRIMERS. So no more need to run Wolff springs or enhanced FPs with these new lots Of course the price is back up to 22 cents a round now...

Would it really be necessary to reinstall the standard springs and firing pins?

Would it really be necessary to reinstall the standard springs and firing pins? No. The enhanced FP and the Wolff springs work fine with standard Ammo. The only disadvantage is the pull is a bit stiffer with the Wolff Springs. I am running 3 rifles configured for the hard primer ammo but they can also shoot M193 , M855, or Wolf Military Classic all day long w/o ill effects.
