Ammunition opportunity

I found an ammunition opportunity in this "Hard Primer" ammo that is sold for 16 cents a round (!!).

What happened is Golden Tiger an older but well liked brand entered the US market again this year with ammo due to a lessening of Russia state military orders (and favorable exchange rates ruble to USD)

Golden Tiger is 56 gr boat tail ammo (which is very rare for russian .223 ammo) has a record of very good accuracy and muzzle velocities.
It is also lacquered and has sealant hand applied to the bullet seating into the case and sealant the primer .

As a result this is one of the most storage resistant rounds on the market anywhere.

So why is it so cheap then?
Well originally they were selling it for 22 cents a round...

When Golden Tiger went back into the market they sourced their primers from a place that makes Russian mil primers.
And they are very hard too hard for many ARs.

While some ARs shoot this ammo fine w/o Mods...... in order to run it reliably there are upgraded firing pins needed ( and some also get Wolff springs)

I have ordered both and have a substantial amount of this excellent ammo on order for 16 cents a round

SG Ammo says they sold a million rounds of this. and have been fielding lots of returns due to the hard primers.... so I have a feeling they are breaking open more boxes to create more of the 1000 rds loose "case"..

I bought 2k rounds. I'm gonna try it with my standard AR's (and firing pins). If I have problems i'll post and also get an enhanced firing pin. I'm just curious to try it with the standard firing pin

Ill likely also try with my standard set up first just for fun. But most of my ARs have aftermarket triggers which feature softer springs .. even if only slightly softer...which likely wont help w/ the hard primer
But I can imagine that depending on production variances some mil-spec ARs will fire it w/o issue. Ive seen a youtube video of it being fired no problems w/o mods to the rifle

My enhanced firing pins from Xtremeprecision came in as did my 3 pack of Wolff springs.

Likely this weekend I will run a test if its positive i will buy even more ammo and another firing pin or two..
I would take a pic of them but they look like normal springs/ firing pins except the springs seem a biut thicker and as predicted the FPs seem a hair longer

This may just be my ignorance on the subject, but the idea of having to use particular parts to function with a particular make of ammo, doesn't sit well with me.

For training it makes sense. 25% decrease in training cost for a new firing pin and a spring are a no brainer.

16 cents  a round!! : )
If it works I will build up this ammo to ridic levels and enjoy half the ammo cost compared to the cheapst brass. or save 30% compared to the cheapest steel

Especially if you have more than 1 rifle and can set up a training rifle. OR, even if you have a backup BCG (which you should have anyway).

30 second swap of a BCG in your rifle i'd say is well worth the 50% savings on quality ammo!!

Jist read the description of on SGAmmo.com... so, this stuff is a lot of factory screw-ups? Why would the factory put a 5.45x39 primer on a 5.56x45 case? As an experiment of some kind? SGAmmo.com cant seem to keep the stuff in-stock, though.

I mean, if it shoots fine (even with an enhanced firing pin), it's well worth the money! Regardless of their screwup

If you don't mind, for the sake of thoroughness, would try the ammo without the special parts, first?

Omni did you read the original post that explained everything?

BTW: My shipment also arrived this week just picked it up from UPS today.
Will test on Sunday with and w/o enhanced firing pin.

I am confident it will function 100% if I use combined Wolff spring and enhanced firing pin , would not be surprised if just one of these changes is enough.
However I do expect 50%+ failure to fire rates in in unmodded rifles... as my rifles all have aftermarket triggers (which means even softer springs than AR stock)

I will find out on Sunday...
If results are as I expect them to be I will order a lot more of this ammo before it sells out again.

Yes, but that didn't explain if you would be doing the evaluation with standard parts first. Not the first part, at least.
