This thread has me thinking about taking my quad rail to the grinder and just removing the cheese grater effect and lightening the weight. I've know guys who have done that and it actually turned out pretty well. The grinder works but machining usually ends up a little cleaner.

Valid reasons. I knew there'd be something sensible in there. I think keymod was broke for me right about the point someone pointed out it's like having d*cks all up the side of your rifle. Totally daft reason, but have other serious ones. (as it stands I don't have anything I can use either on, so I'm allowed to pick a side and defend it blindly. That's how the internet works, right?!) Talk to tell Hellens about dick-shaped equipment! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Corinthian_helmet_Denda_Staatliche_Antikensammlungen_4330.jpg

ETA- I just took a look at it and felt it. I think mine's a Daniel Defense. It is not sharp in any way. It has some weight, but it doen't turn my carbine into a damn A2 like I'm used to. If your rail is a problem, you don't have any real problems.

I built mine with rails back when that's all there was. I don't see a need to go spend $200+ to replace something that works. On a NEW build? Probably go with a slick tube with top rail, as all I really mount is the surefire switch and front sight to the top.

And now I have to retract my statement about the MOE handguard possibly being better for me... In more shooting exercises and lots of dryfire, I'm finding that the MOE handguard can get a little bit slick for me especially when sweat and other moisture is added. Going back and forth between stippling the handguard, adding traction tape, or going full circle (for me) back to the quadrail. If I go back to the quad rail, I'll just suck it up and add ladder rail protectors. Anyone have experience with Monstrum Tactical?http://monstrumtactical.com/collections/quad-rails-handguards/products/ar-15-quad-rail-mid-drop-in-black?varian

Stipple, tape, or truckbed line that handguard... That monstrum, just like all almost all cheap rails, weighs 15+ ounces. Not worth the weight if all you are looking for is traction. Consider a short or cutdown vfg if you want leverage?

I wouldn't trust a $35 quad-rail, but that's just me.

Looked at my rifle again, it's a triangular endcap and the Monstrum rail will only work with a circular, so moot point now. But $35 is all I was willing to spend on a new handguard right now, so traction tape or stippling it is.
