If I was doing PSD work, an HTC rig would be around my hips, for sure. The thing about it, though, is it is inherently limited in its capacity to carry more than what I consider a light load. A pistol, two pistol mags, two rifle mags, a small IFAK (which messes with the conceal-ability of the rig), and a radio, does not a battle belt make. Its more of a specialized duty belt. I've been of the mind to put two separate HSGI Suregrip belts together; one would be an "every day", vehicle "friendly" rig, the other would be a heavy, near PLCE-style rig. The primary difference between the two is the light rig would have less of what the heavy rig would have: a pistol, 2 pistol mags, only 2 rifle mags, 2 pilot's flasks instead of two canteens, no mini butt pack (an HSGI Utility/2-quart pouch), etc. The heavy rig would have 4 rifle mags, 2 full-sized canteens, that mini butt pack and some additional pouches mounted on it, along with a slim yoke. The pistol and 2 mags for it would stay the same. I'll be posting some pictures in the future, as the piece come in and I get it configured. Obviously, conceal-ability is not a consideration with either of these, but just like a chest rig, Suregrips are quick to done and doff, and can one of those quick-to-scale-up pieces of gear.
Considering a grid-down, WROL, post-extreme disaster-type of scenario, depending upon the part of the country we live, and the size of the group we're in, or not, sustainment capability is very much going to be a personal situation, and short-notice scalability would seem like a very useful capability. An at minimum amount of rifle mags, should be enough to allow one to break contact from a group of attackers, for an Alpha Charlie, in my opinion. The only time we would need to engage heavily, is if we were under a concerted attack from a mob or organized gang, I would think, and that's only if the fight finds us, not the other way around.
