Because I have the time at work, I was keeping up with some of the goings on at Shot Show 2015 when I ran across this video. If you like Palmetto State Armory as much as I do, you know they always deliver on quality when they put their name on something. It looks like they will be manufacturing NEW AKMs. Some parts may be imported but the majority (including the barrel) will be made in the US. The best part is the price tag. The price is expected to be around $600.00.
Any thoughts?

From what I read, there are some really good manufacturers they are outsourcing some of the parts manufacture to, and this is supposed to be a really well made AK. One of these with some of the new Magpul furniture and mags is very appealing.

I like the price point. I also like that the magazine has the "no wobbly" feature. LOL

I just hope 5.56 AKs will be available, aside from the Beryls from Radom USA. But probably have to "settle" for one. Damn Ruso-philes, and their loving of non-domestic ammo!

How did that "tactical" VZ58 make you feel?

I think this might have been the most exciting AK at SHOT. It sounds like the parts are right and, on paper, looks like it will the best hope yet for a USA made AK. Hopefully PSA can resist the opportunity to screw it up.

Yup. From everything I have heard the parts are right. However, we all know AKs are not like ARs. They are not modular and require fitting and finesse to get them to work so there is still plenty of opportunity to screw up. Jim Fuller says that AK building is more like blacksmithing than gunsmithing.

I am stoked to see the beginnings of american made AKs, both from century and (more notably) from palmetto. Seems there is a demand out there. Hopefully someone steps in to fill the void that the ban on 7n6 left with relatively cheap 5.45. Competition is always a good thing. And when you hace heavy hitters like magpul start making accesories, it can only be good. Hopefully companies get the hint and produce AKs compatible with Magpul furniture. Win.

I want companies to make more products that don't involve permanent modifications to the weapon. The only exception I'm down with, is the DA magwell conversion. Other than that, I'm not going to cut the tang off, I'm not going to cut the handguard retainer off, and I'm not removing the rear iron sight.

It's funny you mention the Magpul furnitue eddiewouldclearhot. I have been contacted by 5 different people, both friends and readers, asking which AK to pick up specifically for use with the Magpul furniture. You have to hand it to Magpul for starting out with a rubber magazine pull and growing it to the point that they can create a market for a product that they don't even make just by developing accessories for it. I think the release of the Magpul furniture is going to drive AK sales in a big way and, on paper, this Palmetto AK looks poised to capitalize on that.
If they can keep it under $600, it will steel sales from the WASRs at the low end of the market because (again, on paper) it looks like a best of the USA made AK bunch.

matt is dead on. If PSA can quickly add different calibers to their AK lineup, they'll cash in big time. I know the first release is supposed to be 7.62x39 but I hope a 5.45 follows quickly.
