Always welcome, I've got a lot of the gear to hand still, so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I've noticed that we operate in a different manner to you, and some things we do and some gear we have I genuinely beleive is better, but then there are things you do, and toys the US Military have access to (A10, anyone?) that should be part of our toolbox. Oh, absolutely. That's part of what we are trying to do. Take the best of whatever from wherever and blend it together, to find what works for US in OUR area. You guys definitely have some gear/clothing and some techniques that are spot on.

I'm looking at moving to the US in the next 2-3 years, my fiancee is American, so I'm looking forward to getting around and about all over the place, learn some things and see some stuff. So far I've only been to HI and MN, so would be interesting to see what the rest of the country looks like Look forward to hearing more from everyone, always willing to learn

Cross-training with the Brits is always an eye-opening experience. Their kit was always light years ahead of ours. They have always been a huge influence in how set up and run stuff.
And their regimental drinking songs are a hoot. The little I can remember that is.

Never trained with, but have worked with US troops (All but coastguard) and trust me, the gear envy is exactly the same the other way. Perhaps not so much the load carrying gear, but definitely some of the weaponry/vehicles you have access to. We do like our drinking, and the singing (loosely termed, at best... it's usually more like cats wailing ) I think a lot of the fact that we're good at using gear well is because we don't get the shiniest new toys, and we learn to use what we have as best we can, though thanks (if it can be called that) to Afghan we've got a lot of shiny new toys now, but even that has been a test and adjust process - when we first got MOLLE you'd see guys ditch their belts and go all on the plate carrier, and it's slowly worked back down to a belt, initially through bought kit, and now issued gear! Only drinking I've done was with some of the crew of the Nimitz on the 4th of July 2012 in Hawaii, I was there on holiday but that was some good times

That collar isn't ironed flat Nice to see some appreciation for DPM. Do you have (or even have need for, given the climate) one of the jackets? More options for storing stuff, especially if you're working a chest rig.

Other than for church, weddings, and funerals, I quit ironing collars when I got my DD214. Diz and I both have windproof smocks that we love.

Where is a good place to find those wind proof smocks? What size are you? (Height will do, unless you are an odd shape) I might be able to send one your way...

What size are you? (Height will do, unless you are an odd shape) I might be able to send one your way... 6'1" at 190 pounds. Chest size 40" if that helps. The gear I've got is gonna fit you like lycra. The jackets aren't actually mine - they're ones I've... *ahem* borrowed in a time honoured military tradition. They don't quite fit me right and I'm 6', 42" chest. I'm looking at getting one swapped and was going to send one your way, now I might just have to get them both swapped and one sent your way They're not the 'windproof' ones, just standard issue. But the windproof stuff is just a little lighter, and generally self bought, rather than issued. (In fact, the reason the issued ones are how they are is because people kept buying their own...) Will keep you updated, might be a couple of weeks before I can get hold of the right people to make it happen.
