This one is rather interesting. Actually shows some tactics by the rats.
The part i'm referencing starts at 2:10
Using drones to give live intel to ground forces (evidence in other videos) Heavy armor and APC assault with mechanized troops.

Certainly worthwhile for both the experienced and the novice!
The vids manage to convey a certain amount of the chaos of combat and a glimpse of the potential opposition's tactics.
Lack of SUT training makes lots of noise and produces few results!
The rifle at 3:13 is an FAL - they're prevalent in the ME. Not as ubiquitous as the AK but, available.

Yes I thought it had a FAL kinda look to it but it seemed a bit different. Maybe a license produced version from somewhere? It looked a lot like an FNC to me BUT we all know its too large for that

Appears to be a metric gun with a long flash hider. It could ba an L1A1 but, metric is more likely.

Not to derail too much, but here is a pretty crazy video of the Rhodesian Bush War. Gov troops combating guerrilla forces. Some Fal action aswell. NSFW

"Be a man among men. Rhodesian Light Infantry" I remember seeing those Tshirts FS as a teenager, even though the war was over many years by then.
Also seems like they really got their moneys worth out of those Alouette IIIs..

I remember reading the articles in SOF in the 70s and early 80s.
A lot of good UW information in the form of TTPs is available in books about the Bush War - most actions were small units operating without support.

Do you have any you can recommend strongly that feature well explained f TTPS for small unit in irregular warfare? The relatively low tech and relatively austere level of support for RLI makes me wonder if there are not some gem sin there for prepper/survilaist/MUAG Fire teams... But I have been leery to spend time/money in case a book was too novelized..

I had the privilege of serving with a VN SF vet who took a "break" from 74-80 to fight in Rhodesia. He returned to the US and rejoined SF in the early 80s. After many long talks, he gave me copies of "Pamwe Chete" and "Selous Scouts Top Secret War". "Read these and get back to me" he said. He let me keep the books - both of which are excellent and VERY hard to find.
Easier to find and worthwhile are:
The Bush War in Rhodesia by Croukamp
Fireforce by Cocks
Three Sips of Gin by Bax
A Handful of Hard Men by Wessels
and
Bush War Operator by Balaam.

All that Rhodesia footage makes one want to buy a FAL doesn't it?

I will always have a soft spot for the Cold War Big Three - M14, FAL and G3. I've owned the all several times, build several dozen of each and used them all - particularly the M25 in the field extensively.
I appreciate what 7.62 NATO can do but, 5.56 can do if you will do!
The other issue is their supportability - initial cost, ammo cost, ease of finding mags, quality spares and someone who can keep them running.
Not to mention the are 50+ year old systems! The AR10 has come back in a big way and seems to be the best way to go at present.
I have Saigas in 308 almost by accident - got both in trades, upgraded them with parts on hand and found out that with 175-180gr ammo the shoot sub MOA! So I grabbed all the 20rd mags I could and scoped them.
My next 308s will be ARs.
