This is why uwgear is the only forum I go to. Only here can a review about a new camo pattern turns into a discussion about IEDs in WROL. No one seemed to appreciate my Robo Cop reference, though...

In "WROL without regime", if IED's are used, they will be used to cover deadspace areas ot gaps on a secure perimeter for the most part. The only other thing I could envision (not saying I would do this, it is too indiscriminate) would be to use them protect an area that is infrequently checked, but the need to protect it is still there. @erick My background is as an engineer, and we don't specialise so heavily over here (bridge building BATTALIONs? Dream. Any Sqn could throw a bridge up, dig trenches, mine, demine, run water filtration, work boats etc.) We get taught urban defenses to include booby trapping; The little bear warning things you can buy that fire 12Ga blanks? Fill it with live 12Ga ammo, nail it to a tree, and you have IEDs. And yes, they would be part of my plan. Mines have never been used to kill. (No, seriously. That is not the purpose of minefields. They exist to block, canalise, turn the enemy.) They are there to make the enemy do what you want. So are IEDs. They don't have to be 100lb+ to be effective. Simples.

Right on panzer. Doesnt have to be huge to do what ya want.and it doesnt than many to do it.
Long ago in a galaxy far away..... There was a jungle lane..kind of elaborate (story line to what you saw ...found...encountered ). Not 50ft in was an item. Anchored via a length of trip wire. The lanes ro would go "boom...while your day dreaming profile you killed your two buddies and a we had to go search for your balls ". After that nothing that was found was just picked up. Another was trip wires on a basic joggers alarm. After that the speed at which the teams did the lane slowed. Later fake wires were placed in a fashion to funnel the teams to a choke point .. People would pick uo fast but the amount of caution used to procede was two fold.
Long story but just agreeing that such devices can /are used to control movement.

Yup. Urban environments scare the shit out of me, for that very reason. Every corner is a trap waiting to happen, and an observed obstacle is a BITCH to clear. It's why in one of the other threads I fervently agreed with the MVT way of clearing rooms (stay the fuck outside them and fire into them). Going through doorways needs to be done slowly and carefully where possible. Naturally, there are going to be times when you need to hammer through an area. But we are not an Army that can just role in another Platoon to clear the next set of buildings. You get fucked, you're fucked till forever, AND there's a high chance that the people relying on you are too. Great thread derail, btw

Yeah...derail for sure. I feel that such devices even as mundane say as a trip flare or alarm will slow down forces . Imho in a cough "WROL"(i do hate that term ).. shtf...reddawn..etc event. As AC/survivalist/prepper/moonbat or sgt of rico rangers .... That we need to look at small items /equipment that can help us. Weve got out awesome UW gear stuff on...rocking new OCP2 clothes...but 8 guys are trailing us hard since our recon on junction sr12 and hwy 5 .we were expecting a local group make a supply drop..but failed to arrive on agreed time. Its been 3 miles now and our tail end is relaying they are gaining but dropped by three guys. We need space and time for ( insert wounded care..admin..EE away from the retreat-camp )... Maybe one of those flare kits and a hasty ambush...or purposely fake sign to make them slow(leave some used bandages..shell cases...whatever)but not a flare this time. Make the space and move. My grey matters on speed today i guess lol But structure wise...shtf wrol.. zombies...i aint going in unless it is nessary..thats why i carry a bic and a set of matches.. Always worked in john wayne movies
