I picked up a Solar Tactical MFER AK mag funnel, and thought I'd throw up a couple of quick initial thoughts on it. solartactical.com/AK47-MFER-MAGAZINE-FUNNEL-ENHANCED-RELOAD-AK47MFER.htmFirst off, the design is simple genius. It install's easily with no modification to the weapon. It weighs virtually nothing and you dont even notice it on the weapon. I installed it on both my 5.45 SGL 31 and 7.62 SGL 21 and it fit both fine. On the SGL 31 it definitely made reloads smoother. The only issue I found was on removing the mags, they didnt want to consistently come out smoothly. They are hitting it on the front side ever so slightly and not letting the mags rock forward quite enough. A little work with a file should remedy that problem. On the SGL 21, it worked perfectly on both insertion and removal. I've only done some dry reloads with it, but, it definitely seems to smooth out the reload process. I hope to get a video done soon (time permitting) and go a little more indepth about it, but for now, I really think this is a great addition to an AK.

Thanks for your impression Hawkeye! Does this prevent the user from canting the mags at all or does it just act as a funnel?

It just acts as a funnel. Gives you a larger "opening" to hit with the mag and then guides it in.

That looks like a nice unit. Maybe just what old Mr. Six Thumbs needs.

I am running one of these also, I really like it. I was never able to do a speed reload and not be looking at the mag well, but now I can do it without looking.

Err...I don't know about this one.
It looks like a nice idea, and all, but the way that it mounts inside of the trigger guard....
Is it just to two tension screw at the magazine release, and then a set screw on the muzzle end? Other than the magazine, itself, what is there to stop the unit from sliding toward the trigger, if the screws loosen under recoil?
I could be totally wrong, as I have no first hand experience with this device, but to me, it looks like a negligent discharge just waiting to happen.
The small benefit that it offers just does not outweigh that negative, in my mind.
I'll pass.

OK, I have to ask....how in the world to do you get a negligent discharge from adding this to the weapon?? I am lost there. As for it loosening under recoil....I honestly dont see any way at all that it could and it definitely isnt moving rearward even if it did. The ledges that go inward around the front of the trigger guard/mag catch rivets that prevent that.
In regards to attachment, it uses the two screws/nuts at the rear, and a metal J shaped hook on the front that hooks on to the receiver at the front of the magwell.

I see what he was saying. From looking at the pics you can't really tell that it interfaces in front of the trigger guard, keeping it in place as you describe. What's the screw at the muzzle end of the device?

Its a small recessed nut where the front J tab is connected at.

From just looking at your photos, I got the impression that if the two rear screws loosened, then the entire piece would slide rearward into the trigger. Not having the piece in hand makes it hard to visualize, and the manufacturer's website offers no illustrations of the mounting or installation. When you post your in-depth review, I would be very much interested in seeing the installation. Thanks.
