So most AK light mounts either require a rail or place the light in a place that I generally do not prefer. RS Regulate has a new mount in the testing phase that looks like it has the potential to change all that. You can see pics here (hopefully this link works): www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.315479211822470.63512.151408161562910&type=1There are 2 things that I think I really like about it (at least on paper, I haven't laid hands on one)... 1. It positions the light very well when used with an offset mount like the VLTOR that is pictured (I happen to have a couple laying around). The light falls naturally under the support thumb for easy activation and is well forward to reduce shadowing. It tucks the light in extremely close to the rifle as well. This is about as snag free as you are going to get. 2. It will work on an AK without a handguard rail or Ultimak type rail. Wood stock, polymer stock - it doesn't matter. This can be dropped on any old iron sighted AK. This is the first non-rail light set up that has made any sense to me and it should be a great addition for KISS guys. AK + sling + light = functional (though I still prefer to add an Aimpoint as well).

I briefly glanced at that yesterday. It is definitely interesting. I'd like to see some better pics of how it mounts, etc. I assume it clamps to the barrel. My only concern there would be heat transfer, but that very well could be a non issue.

Can't get the link to work ... would like to take a look at it though if there are any other sites to look at.

Sorry about the link. Facebook is the only place that I know of where this is available.

Great to see you on the forum Horse. I try to always keep an eye on what you are up to at RS Regulate. I typically try to post about your work on JTT as well.

I had the pleasure of meeting Horse in person last week. He's good people. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on some of his mounts.

The new "flashlight mount" is a bit of an odd duck. I have spent the past 2-3 years trying to get a light mounted correctly on my 105 and always had an issue or two with current products on the market.
So I decided to make my own. Some details still need to be kept close to the vest, but I can say that it is roughly 1/2oz and the basic model is a clean pic rail version. Others can follow if there is enough demand, but currently the Alpha test model is pic rail. This allows one to mount their own prefered ring/integrated/X300/handstop/sling swivel?? to the location.
Does not require any removal or modification of parts to use, and currently fits AKM pattern barrels.
Alpha models have been tested for about a month and show no signs of moving or other short comings. The only "problem" we see right now is that the clamping action is very uniform around the barrel and can mar the finish. I see this as a non-issue though as you will install it and not move it.

Nope. I can't show the actual mount until I am ready to go into production. One because I might need to change it, and secondly its not black.

No super secret squirrel nonsense going on - I am just about the most open person there is, but I have had some ideas about improving the concept and I don't think showing alpha models when they will change isn't much good.
