I could use all your insights on whether I should get an 11.5" BCM upper or a 10.5" upper of another brand. I am familiar with the increased dwell time/reliability of the 11.5" but also think the 10.5 LMT or PSA looks promising. I will be suppressing this rifle the majority of the time. Please let me know why you'd get one over the other. My gut tells me to go with the BCM (I have 3 other BCM uppers), but I would appreciate any first hand experience you all can provide. Thank you.

My vote was for the 11.5 BCM upper. Seeing that it'll only be an inch difference and not a change in the gas length i'd stick with the BMC brand due to their reputation and quality. Im in a pickle right now too between a 20inch or 18inch bcm upper.

I have a few 10.5 uppers. 2 are LMT's and the other is a PSA with FN CHF CL barrel. They have all be absolutely reliable, both suppressed and unsuppressed. One of the LMT's has seen a 1,000 rd carbine course at Tiger Valley with zero issues. That's without a cleaning being fired both suppressed and unsuppressed.

I haven't voted, but I'll comment. I've played with LMT stuff; The 7.62 Sharpshooter that we have for Afghanistan is made by LMT and is solid as a rock.
I think, basically, what you need to do is look at your budget, look at what else you might need, and look at the features of each, and get the most 'bang' for your buck.

Another pro for BCM is their current promo which is if you buy one of their uppers, you can get a BCM BCG and a gunfighter charging handle for $69. Im a lefty so I did the promo and got a BCG and a ambi charging handle for $96 (would have cost me $241 if I bought them separate.)

If you are planning to suppress, take a look at the LMT. They typically have a small(ish) gas port with the thought that they will be run suppressed. They run fine without the suppressor too.

On short barrels, it is correct, port size is paramount. The 10.5 LMT should have a .071" My Brother's LMT 10.5

I have not voted because I dont have practical experience with such short uppers. (IMHO 14.5 pinned is plenty short for urban OPS and under that lenght the effectiveness of the ammo falls off dramatically, but this is not the discussion you are soliciting and I know u are wlel aware of these things)
.....but I get it when the Security Contractor community wants shorter barrels for SUV borne OPS.
And for us as civilian 1st responders there are certain paralells.
I am curious how this venture will turn out for you.
