What's your choice for a ferro rod? I've got a couple but I'm not happy with them. Also, what are you using as a striker?

Light My Fire of Sweden does a variety, all of which I would consider good if not excellent, most of which come with associated (and ATTACHED) striker. Can't say anything for other brands, but these are quality.

UST StrikeForce Fire Starter about $15 off Amazon. has area to keep some PJ cotton balls as well. I now have two as they throw a big bunch of sparks.

I make my own as most of the commercial ones are tiny. Mine are at least 5/16" and 3" long. I bore out deer antler and shape to size. Then gorilla glue the handle in. I have yet to have a handle come unglued. For a striker, I use the 90 degree spine on my knife.

Yeah, I've got some fairly large ones without handles bookmarked. Probably get a couple of those and make my own handles for them.

I use the LMF ones in pretty much all sizes. I also EDC an Exotac Nanostriker on my keychain which is quite good.
There are so many firesteels out there now and have been disappointed by several of them so now I just stick to what I know works.
