I think the big problem with the pistol under the barrel like that is that it would really have to be attached via the rail on the frame, as shown on the previous page. I think using the pistol as your pistol grip (which you would pretty much have to) you'd end up snapping off the dust cover on the frame of a plastic pistol pretty quick with the torque you'd be putting on it. Even aluminum probably wouldn't last that long in that role. So you's be stuck with a steel framed gun. Which pretty much means a 1911. So you'd have a 7 shot, 43 ounce (dry) pistol, plus ammo, plus mounting bracket on the end of your rifle, that you'd have a bitch of a time detaching in a hurry if you had to. When it's all said and done that's going to add up to some 3.5-4 pounds of handgun, with 8+1 rounds.

The weight of a grenade launcher is worth it for what you get. The weight of a steel-framed handgun, IMO is not. Even for breachers I think the underslung shotgun (like the Knight's Masterkey) isn't worth it for the penalty of having it hanging off the rifle.
