Im very familiar with the NAR chest decomp needle, I have several and am well versed in the logic and science behind the choice of the 3.25 catheter and the red tip. It makes sense and I get it. My question is this.. is it better to have a packaged product with everything you may need or a single NAR chest decomp needle?? In my IFAK I keep just the needle but I also keep several pneumothorax kits that have EVERYTHING you will need for the procedure. I can absolutely see the need for a simple one item solution to a pneumothorax but is the all inclusive kit better for "facility" or retreat use???

When possible, and if available, I always try and get a complete kit. My only caveat to this would be if several people pitch in and buy the supplies in bulk to get a better price on items, and then make up their own kits.

We have, and I'll see if I can find one next time I'm in the right place, an Aide Memoire that goes in with the first aid gear. BIG letters, and flip up things with 'DRILL SIX' etc written on them. You read a box, answer a yes/no question, and it flowcharts you to the next thing. A6 in side (1/4 letter, if you don't do ANSI sizing) and it's brilliant. Prioritises everything you don't NEED to remember airways, breathing circulation etc. You will. But when something is going off round you, it is beautiful as a guide. Will see if I can get pics. FOUND IT. PRINTABLE VERSION!
