If you haven't read Max Velocity's "Contact" book, you need to quickly. Max has a new post about using the flank. SUT will be our bread and butter or as Diz likes to say "Where you'll make your money." Keep in mind this is how the Brits do it. Quite honestly, this way makes the most sense to me. Having gone thru his class on individual, buddy, and team movements, this just makes sense to me. I have no prior mil training but it just clicked. Take a look at this post and get a copy of all of his books. Reacting to contact properly is essential. That being said everything has its place. www.maxvelocitytactical.com/2015/03/the-flank/This video of an SAS survival video is one of my favorites. Spend the time and watch it. It is a treasure trove of solid tactics and procedures for a recce. Part I Part II

How else is it done? I've never seen anyone fight differently and win, but I'd be willing to try something different, so long as it's not the 'walk in a line firing' approach as MVT alludes to in his post.
This is DEFINITELY effective, but requires constant comms whilst patrolling, and as highlighted, quick decision making skills and an experienced chap giving the directions.
