So 1 mil subtends 1 metre at 1000 metres and 1 MOA is 1" at 1000 yards.
This naturally makes the MOA a more accurate measurement (until you start getting into 1/10ths etc...)
I get all the theory, but given actual practicalities, is one better than the other? I've only ever used mils, and it converts from bearings to shooting to distance judgement without any skill or real thought. How does MOA compare?
I ask because I've been watching some shooting vids recently and with me thinking about getting a monocular for nav purposes it kinda dawned on me that as far as I'm aware, anyone on here that's former military will probably measure travelled distances in Km, but ranged distances in Yds. When converting from one to the other is there any sort of quick reference tool you guys use, or a 'factor'?
Are there any OTHER uses for MOA measurements that I've not yet seen/thought of that outright trump the Mil in an armed citizen scenario (whether it be for sharing information/comms/planning type stuff, or down and dirty tactical stuff...)
I expect if anything Mils is likely better at a planning level, because it's 'simpler' (factor of ten stuff), but I don't know shit about MOA to be able to make that judgement. Given that our MAIN advantage over a formed military is that, especially if you're bugging IN you've got all the time in the world (hopefully forever, and you'll never need it) to make all sorts of careful plans and use everything to the best effect, we have this time - What are our thoughts?

...1 MOA is 1" at 1000 100 yards…. I am not sure if you mistyped, but 1 MOA would be 1" at 100 yards, and therefore, 10" at 1000 yards. I think that miliradian measurements make a lot more sense than MOA measurements. Similarly, I find metric system measurements to be superior to american measurements.

Yep, mistype. Welcome to my half-drunk thoughts
