Yeah rice paddy squat is something that was popular a few years ago in the SEA wargames. The way I've seen it, you pretty much squat straight down, with weight evenly distributed on both legs. That drawing looks like he's bladed off a bit. It's literally just like squatting to take a ... well you know. It's fairly stable once you can keep your heels flat. But most westerners have to work at that. Very true - It's interesting to see that in the 'East' a lot of people are capable of squatting and actually touching their arse to the floor, whereas it's nearly impossible for 99% of westerners (without cheating & using your hands!).

OK, ran the drill (3) times consecutively last Monday and this is ONE TOUGH DRILL to ace IMO. I took video of the 3rd run which has me reduced to a crawl, but the hits were about par for all (3) runs. I ran the first drill about X2 or so it felt, but slowing down did not help my shooting as I was slowing down the running (shuffling) part and not the actual shooting part. Next Monday I will be doing the same drill again and have a shooter in his 60's (I'm 48 and fat) who is going to run it also. possible the other regular (40ish) will be there also. First off... squatting is a NON-STARTER! Doing it in the house is fine, trying to do it after running 200 yards is not happening. I couldn't breath period in that position. LOL I shot the 200y kneeling and that is pushing my limits. I will be modifying the drill for my use to have a car hood to shoot off of at the 200y mark while squatting, not doing a full on "Rice patty prone" like shown above. Drill break down on 3rd run is as follows.

Wow nice job. I can see several things that I'd need to work on. First off the sheer exertion looks tough. Getting your HR back down quickly to be able to shoot effectively is gonna take some work. Next is working on the practical shooting positions. Gonna have to get more flexible. Next is just the trigger time, working on the fundamentals so I'm not jerking the trigger. Then, looking at where I want my go-to mags at. And if I want to retain them, or not.
I think this will be a key issue. If you, or your group can maneuver like this, and still put down effective fire, you'll be light-years ahead of the oppo.

This is cracking. I like it a lot.
A thought on development; Not sure of it's practical use, but it'd be interesting to take 3-4 mags and start at 300 and work your way in but only ever going 'up up seen down' and putting say 5 rounds down each bound. Then give yourself 5 minutes and work back up the other way up the range. Objective is to move as fast as possible, but still maintain as many hits as possible.
I wish I could still train like this, I find it a much better way of doing phys in general (specific to what I want to do, and the task at hand distracts me from the fact that I'm running, and running is boring...).

Diz, I obviously need to work on all of those also and will in the next few tries, although the squatting will not happen. I'm going to keep a training log on my new website to track progress on the same drills. Putting it on video makes getting times a lot easier than a shot timer, even if they are not down to .01 sec @panzer, I like that idea and will likely make a drill up for that. Getting the up/see/dn to automatic.

This is really good training. I'm gonna have to get to my own range and try this stuff myself.
On the rice paddy squat. Dunno about that one. I think I'd prefer just a kneeling position. Don't see how that would detract from the overall drill.
Panzer make a good point. Perhaps modify it with a "I'm up, he sees me, I'm down" sort of rhythm, shortening the rushes to 3-5 seconds.
