Have a Mora clipped somewhere near to hand. A backup Benchmade 740 in the pocket daily. A Victorinox soldier in the stove kit.
Strangely enough I almost always have the Esee Junglas inside my pack. Not sure why. at 26 ounces it's the weight of a pistol, which I don't include. I seldom ever make fire.
Something about a bloody big knife like the Cold steel Gurka or the Junglas just belongs.
I do use it for hacking at times, but.......
No logical reason for it.
A Dustrude 21" bucksaw would be far more useful.
I have a Machete a good old one I carried and used muchly in Africa. Would never be without it in the bush. Here in the PNW it just doesn't fit a clear need.
The Junglas I use in place of an ax...... not that I build fire often. Travel clean and light with no trace.
I'm learning to love the whiff of an alcohol stove, and the warmth of good gear and PE.

I keep a Ontario Rat3 and Gerber multi tool in the pack. Daily carry is a Dark Ops Stratofighter and leatherman multi tool. I have been considering adding something larger to the pack like a Ontario RTAKII or Becker BK0, but not sure if that is the way to go. Is there a point of it being too big? Also should a knife have a steel butt that can be hammered with like a traditional USMC KaBar?

I normally just carry a little folder. If I'm carrying the BOB, I've got an SOG multi-tool. There's also a blade that can be hafted, used as a froe to split wood, or as a machete.

chopping is very noisy and it's flashy movement, and it's dangerously likely to cut you with a bad swing in some way, and it's inefficient if the timber is more than a very few inches thick, too. I prefer a saw. I keep a couple of sawsall blades in the kit, for gripping in the visegrip multi-tool. I also have a "hand chain saw", for bigger stuff.

I carry around a spare timber factory in my dump pouch. It makes it easier to make bullshit claims and wave my dick around

How do you have that mounted on your gear? I've got a couple of trainers from RMJ, and a trainer sheathe, and I've been trying differing positions to see which works better with different set-ups.

I carry it with the shoulder strap. It allows me to maneuver it around my other gear, depending on if I want it stowed sort of around back, or forward to pull. It can be a pain, but there's so many advantages to it, especially the Shrike, on several levels, I put up with it. It's also shockingly light compared to the Benchmade and RMJ Berserker I used to have.

Numerous smaller bushcraft, and a few combat knives..and a hawk. The duo are a Hayes hawk, and the 10" blade is a Fehrman Hood Hunter. Neither are still made and both kinda hard to come by. I got the Fehrman by putting a wanted in a post on Bladeforums. Forgot all about it and out of the blue a couple years later, I was contacted with an offer for one that was as new.
