Do you guys prefer standard selectors or the type with a tab for the index finger (Krebs Enhanced, Blackjack SWIFT, etc)? Why?

I'm torn on the idea. Since I dont use the safety on an AK the way we are traditionally taught to with an AR, the stock one works fine for me. I would though like to be able to use just my index finger to manipulate it for when I do want to operate it. I am wondering if having the extra tab on it like the Krebs etc, will bother me though with it sticking out. I know it isnt much, but I like to keep the side of the weapon as smooth as possible. I really need to just get one and try it and answer all my own questions/concerns.

I have the Krebs selectors on both rifles and I do like them, probably because of what you mentioned about ARs. Most of my training is on ARs and they are my primary rifle. I like being able to keep my finger straight and off the trigger with the safety engaged and then sweep it off in a natural motion as my finger moves to the trigger guard and the rifle comes up.
If you want a tabbed selector that will be as slick as possible, the Krebs is the one. Their design uses a rounded swell rather than a tab with a 90 degree bend in it. They are also one of the cheaper options since Midway sells them well below MSRP (and any other retailer's price).
The absolute cheapest way to try one is to buy a tab and rivet set from Solar Tactical. I think they are about 12$ and if you are handy, the install should be pretty simple.

As I prepare to build / modify mine, I think that will be one of my first investments either right before or right after the flash suppressor. I like how the ergonomics look as far as manipulation and such ...

I know this is an oldie. I dont know how many of you are wrong handed like myself, but I am looking for an ambi selector for an AK. I got in contact with Krebs and asked them why they discontinued their ambi selector. I was told that they are just waiting on an ETA for them. In the mean time do any of you know of an ambi selector for use lefties? ..... Since I dont use the safety on an AK the way we are traditionally taught to with an AR........... I'm curious to what you mean. Can you elaborate a bit more?

I run AK like Roosian.
Outside of vehicle or base, safety off. Inside vehicle or base, safety on.
{Heresy}
I run AR same way

I used a Krebs Enhanced Safety on my WASR for a class, but, ultimately, went back to the traditional-style safety found on AKs. I can already manipulate the traditional safety with my dominate hand (the right one) already. Yes, I have to break my grip, but can I tell you the number of times I've seen people shooting an AR do that, on the ergonomically "superior", god-killer AR?! I can keep the webbing of my hand on the grip and reach forward enough to sweep the tab with the pad of my middle finger, to flick it on and off with equal ease. Not to mention, there have already be a host of Ruski-developed techniques designed to work with the idiosyncrasies of AK, which are not at all difficult to pick-up, with practice. I don't find using the index finger to manipulate an "enhanced" AK safety, to be superior any superior than any of the techniques developed to manipulate a traditional safety.
