Congratulations to North Carolinians on the passage of a decent Castle Doctrine. As of today, 12/01/11. I no longer have a legal duty/presumption to retreat if attacked, even in my own home. This bill, HB650, also improves the concealed permit process, provides legal protection for collectors of fully automatic firearms and allows concealed carry in parks and game lands (prior to today, it was illegal to carry concealed on most National Forest land in NC as most of it is designated game land). The elections of November 2010 were paramount. For 112 years straight, anti-gun rights politicians controlled the NC General Assembly.....yes, you read that right, for 112 years straight. Well, in 2010 that changed and I am glad a group like GRNC www.grnc.org existed (exists) and took action. I am glad we took action. Yet, we still have far to go. Now is NOT the time to rest on our laurels. It never really is. "An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it.“ - Jeff Cooper

Excellent. I am still baffled though, as to why we have to actually pass a law, that says you dont have to retreat from someone bent on doing evil and otherwise breaking the law, especially in ones own home. Seriously? Who was the brain fried crack head that ever thought honest good men (and women) should have to retreat from an attacker?

I would say, because government never, ever ends up being about liberty.

You'll remember that we had the same situation in our home state too up until a few years ago Brother! I prefer Gun Owners of America's stance on gun laws ... THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY!!! The 2nd Ammendment grants all citizens the right to carry ... there should be laws and punishment to the laws being broken ... a gun is an inanimate object; it has no will, malice or motive on it's own and therefore should not enter into any legal equation ... PERIOD!!!
