Do you have any suggestions for wearing a 1st line belt kit (holster, pistol magazines, dump pouch, knife, etc.) in conjunction with a larger ruck that has a load bearing waist belt? Conflicts occur between these two systems.

Conflicts occur between these two systems. I haven't used it, but something like the RCS Moduloader with the 'subload' frame looks like it might work real well for magazines, assuming you're using 30rd 5.56 mags. It'd be nice to hear from someone who has at least seen one in person to confirm/deny. I've found personally that the key to getting belt kit and a daysack/bergan to integrate well is not in finding the right belt kit, but finding the right daysack. If you carry stuff in pouches at the back, a shorter daysac/bergan that will sit on them and allow the belt to take some weight from your shoulders works. Tend to find though that people cut off the waist straps on issued bergans because they interfere with magazine changes. Another consideration is how thick that load bearing belt is. I have on on my daysack that I cut off; it provides no real value unless I sprint. I have one on larger rucksacks that is thick enough to load bear, but thin enough to clip round the bergan itself. This is ideal if you use the same bergan to go hiking or do any other activites with (Mine's a Karrimor Sabre 75, and it is an EXCELLENT bag, can be used for climbing/hiking/most things too!.) I would say that if belt gear is what you're sure you want to run, then work the bergan round the belt gear, not the belt gear round the bergan.
