great video! i am definitely going to have to get a better sling...mine is an old coyote 2 point that i modified to fit my AK, but it is already way too tight for comfort and i think the configuration you demonstrated is actually better in many ways from what i am used to doing...

I've done this before for some long hikes. I've also simply hung the strap around my neck.
The key consideration for me on how to employ a sling is METT-TC. How likely is contact? what phase of the operation are we in? some sling positions (for me) work better if i know i'm going to be moving a casualty. if i know things are about to get really "dynamic" sometimes i just remove the sling altogether. then again, sometimes i dont. depends on if you have a side arm, urban vs. jungle, etc.
i'm a big fan of doing things that work in almost every situation. i've never been able to find a sling carry method that works in the majority of situations. so I just end up moving it around.
great video, and a good discussion starter.
completely off topic: what flash hider is on your weapon and how do you like it?

I like this idea a lot.
Makes a lot of sense.
I am finally finishing up my AR build and a sling is one of the last things needed.

Hawk makes valid points. Interestingly the Patrol Carry is the way I always carry my rifle.
Am always real auspicious of the new "CQB" ways that are being pushed at various places since they are invariably set up for a PoU that is not mine (or that so most their students for that matter..NOT referring to MVT or MDT but the Kris Costa type places) When rigging my stuff I always have in mind a long foot patrol with minimal contact like a prepper environment.

The nice thing about patrol carry is that I don't have to adjust my sling to use it. The only time I would use it is (as the name implies) while on patrol. Try using it getting in and out of vehicles as well as going to a secondary and you might find as I have that the "QCB" version works better for just about everything but patrol. (which is probably what you were saying, not that it's a better all around method) Also, I would think people without excellent muzzle control would tend to flag more just letting it hang because it doesn't depress the muzzle as much as the QCB method. UPDATE: Ran the PR safety qualifier today (8/25/14) using both methods. Found that running with muzzle up caused the sling to fall off my shoulder between positions when using the patrol carry.

It might be good to have a sling you can setup in 1 or 2 point mode for various reason...problem is once you start adding snap shackles, HK clips, mash hooks, QD swivels..etc. is that you start making more noise...
If it's falling off your shoulder you might not have it tight enough...

You can't make a sling tight enough to do both, patrol and run muzzle up. One is opposing the other. If your forward attachment point is near the muzzle it's even worse, mine is at the magwell.
Try it, you will see what I mean.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3 point issued sling for the win - you have to clip/unclip a fastex buckle, but it works. also lets you do wierd shit like wear the rifle in a backpack configuration (has it's uses, I promise.)
