I was going to post a new thread but searched and found this one from back in the day . . .
I'd posted above about my past experiences with dump pouches from Maxpedition. I never did purchase a new one from a different manufacturer but I kept training with the one I had moving it around on the belt a bit.
I eventually found that the place that made it the easiest for me to use to retain mags was right up front near the belt buckle. (I'd posted pictures in another thread of this setup.)
But then when I went to take a knee and get behind cover the mag got pushed up and out of the pouch and onto the ground. Same thing with running between positions while training.
So on this latest iteration of my battle belt I've just gone and removed it. I replaced with a single pistol mag pouch which I did not already have on the belt.
I'm just going to lose a few mags in training perhaps and if I ever really need to be pulling rifle mags in anger out of my belt I've got bigger concerns than losing a few magazines.

If you're not crazy about how your dump pouches are set up, or you're doing a lot of vehicle based stuff, it might be worth looking at something similar to this grab bag. Main body has a nice slit in the top that you can use as a dump pouch or for carrying other stuff, and the mag pouches on the front are 3x3mags. frag/smoke front and back. Depends how you operate but I know some folk who swear by this setup instead of a belt, and folk who hate it. Just another option for you!
