Okay, I have a question to the tactical/gear wizards here. I have discussed this with a couple guys in my tribe, who both have great ideas of what they think would be best, but would love to get other ideas as well. Started it here in Medical as it is a medic rig setup.
We seem to be adding new people to our tribe, which is great. This makes it less likely I will go beyond the wire as they say "I am too valuable". I am not getting rid of my outside the wire setup, but now need something more low profile for around the AO. I will have rifle/AR pistol somewhat nearby most of the time, but I am wanting a rig to use while I am in camp doing chores, gardening, etc. When I pull time outside the wire, I have that rig already. I am thinking a belt with G19X or G17, double pistol mag carrier, and double rifle mag carrier and BOK. I plan on having a small med kit in my cargo pocket for treating boo boos without going all the way back to the clinic. But I am wondering if a specialized chest rig would be better? Maybe still have G19X on a pistol belt, but the CR would have the BOK, two pistol mags and two rifle mags and maybe a place for another 1-2 TQs. If I am urgently needed to go outside the wire I could toss on my med backpack and still be armed for a quick up to the gate or just outside the wire excursion.
Would love to open this up for ideas.

A battle belt style setup is easy to put on and take off and can be worn over layers. For your BOK I have become a fan of a fanny pack style that is easy to drop and hand off to someone in a group setting. Figure the IFAK on your belt kit should be the one used on you.
Chest rigs get hot when working in them and can impede carrying things (think carrying firewood for example)
Just a thought...

A sling pack wouldn’t be a bad choice, because it’s easy to grab and throw over your shoulder regardless of whatever level of gear or clothing you’re wearing at the moment that the call for a medic goes out.
You can find several different types with molle fields on the outside of the pack for the attachment of a tear-away BOK or IFAK.
Just throwing it out there. Not many people consider that when it comes to a med kit, the guy charged with using it might not want to have to alter his entire loadout to facilitate his role as the medic. A sling pack can be removed, placed on the ground near the patient, and if the tactical situation were to rapidly change, the medic still has all their party gear still on their person.

Okay, I like the answers so far. Chest rig would get hot in the lower SE of the US in summer. Battle belt is what I have been leaning to with just a bare 'camp' minimum like a G19, two pistol mags, BOK (for me) a double rifle mag pouch and maybe a FAK for me and others that would be rip-away. If I had to 'meet someone coming in from outside the gate, all I would have to do is grab one of my aid bags/packs (I have several) and head to the gate or have someone else bring it to the gate. If they are coming in hot, I would grab my rifle as well (may make that SOP no matter the situation). That would eliminate the time for me to put on my regular out-the-wire BB and CR. It would give me 90 rounds of rifle load. If I know I am going out the wire on patrol, then I would have my regular battle medic load out. I have a sling medic bag as one of my 'aid bags' so I could use that as my first choice bag. Thanks for helping me think this thru. As I said, I am not the gear guy and rely on the guys in my tribe and here for those questions. And DBD you are correct. The medic has to have a different setup, and not changing it, but adding to it would be ideal. I will still have two setups depending on which side of the wire I am located, but the belt may be the same. Still waiting on others to post their thoughts....

I feel like we are similar in a lot of ways. Also in the Southeast as well. For inside the wire a battle belt with side arm, knife, IFAK, ect. Perhaps a small chest rig with rifle mags. The biggest thing besides a aid bag that you can take with you is a way to move the pt. It's not easy to move people when they can't move themselves especially when they are unresponsive. Our group has 3 usgi one pole litters, a usgi folding pole litter, a LSB, and multiple non rigid nylon litters. I use a TT large utility pouch for a non rigid litter on the side of my TT M5 medic bag. I'd love to chat with your about your clinic set up. We are currently designing ours.
