anyone tried it? concept of use as a tiny light for an indoor home defence gun. anyone have one and want to volunteer to try? I'd be interested to see how well it did cause for all the times I envision needing a light on a rifle I see very, very few where *most* people need 900lm and beam distances of 100-200m. Would also allow you just one 'type' of light to maintain, repair, familiarise yourself with.
Thoughts?

I've used the MFT Torch, which is like 20 lumens maybe. It worked pretty well for practicing clearing my home, but really lacked when trying to light up a warehouse during a med class, it was nice to have a super small light on the rifle. You could also mount the XC1 at the 12 o'clock on your rifle if you don't have an a fixed sight, I really like the 12 o'clock for lights. I'm not really a surefire fan, because I can't afford the admission. There's also the Inforce APL for the same idea, and the UTG pistol light if you want something cheaper to try the concept. This is probably what I'll do with my AR pistol.

Found a problem with the XC1 for mounting it to 12 o'clock on a rifle, the lever to activate the light only goes one way. This would be down on a pistol, but UP on a rifle. For constant on with the XC1, there is a cross bolt button like the safety on a 10/22, that could be interesting on a rifle. These may or may not be deal breakers for people. Another option I found and the one that I think I'll be getting for my AR pistol, is the Olight PL-1 Valkerie. Single CR123 (I think, gotta double check); with constant on, momentary on, strobe, and a 2 lumen blue "navigation" light. Seems to be running about $65 on Amazon currently. I've seen one bad review where somebody put it on a Walther, it broke the rail off and fell off the pistol, but I haven't seen anyone else have that problem so maybe Walther rails are weaker or slightly different spec. www.amazon.com/Olight-Valkyrie-EdisonBright-lithium-battery/dp/B0163VVTBS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498655698&sr=8-1&keywords=olight+valkyrieEdit: I really wish they'd stop putting strobe modes on lights, but that's just me.

I agree with regards to strobe. I don't know about anyone else, but being BEHIND a strobe light makes your life harder. It might make it hardER for the guy being strobed but I really think that it's a moot point if there's another threat that isn't in strobe range (say, a couple of rooms away) and you're still feeling the after effects of strobe when he arrives, strobe free.
I was actually thinking more mounting it underneath, at 6 o clock. Naturally I'm thinking bullpup rifles which would allow for the light to be mounted forward in relation to the rifle but close in relation to arms reach.

You and your dang bullpups Panzer.
To further beat this horse, the argument of strobing disorienting someone, it would also disoreint the shooter but hopefully to a lesser extent. But can people ID targets with strobe on?

Well. This was my point; You make their life hardERer than yours, but you also make yours hard too. You CAN, 100%, identify a target. Ever been in a nightclub and they throw the strobe on? You can still tell who people are at 'house' distances, but you might take longer to do so.
Guess who doesn't care about clear targets/clear backgrounds? They guy you're strobing, probably. They'll use their own version of the strobe, whether they aim at you, your kids, nothing or anything.

Was considering this. Tango Down makes a fixed front sight with a tunnel designed to allow this light to mount/shine thru....

I also also not a fan of the strobe function. actually like the basic instant on/instant off like the entry level Inforce WML
