This weekend with all the rains a lot of my buddies flaked out. So I had the range to myself (with the Vietnam Vet owner functioning as range Control.

Did you practice TQ skills? "wink, wink" You mean tourniquet? Of course...just giving you a friendly hard time....but a reminder to others to not forget first aid training with their gear on. Trust me, with the gear on it is completely different then without the gear. I threw on my pack and CR yesterday and did a little TQ training, but wasn't at the range.

Points well taken...
But let me add something... why do I train so much with my primary? Why should anyone?
Especially when the secondary, the Pistol, is much more likely to be actually used under current status quo/Phase Zero conditions?
This is my answer:
- My skill level with a handgun (and that of nearly anyone on this board) already dramatically exceeds that of common criminals. I am not really worried too much about the outcome of a Pistol fight whit common criminals. At least where skill level is concerned.. The actual tactical details of such an interaction the when , how, where, the terrain geometry (car in the way etc etc) will have such an outsize effect on the outcome of a citizen self defense action.
- But right-of-boom, for a Prepper/Survivalist/MAG/ Self defense team etc ....our primaries will be used for EVERYTHING... as assault rifle, Defensive rifle, DMR ,Support-by-Fire.. our AR15s do it all! We dont have a LMG or GPMG to perform support by fire (SPF) for us.
It will be one (or two) of our guys with his primary. We can't call Arty or Helo support to substitute for weakness in maneuver.. we dont have claymores etc either!
This is why training with our basic rifles is even more critical for us than for ,say, .mil Infantrymen.
That's why we need to be better than the average .mil Infantryman w/ our AR15s than he is with his M4s/M16A4s.. because for us its our only tactical armament and it has to fill all directfire roles AND we dont have ANY indirect fire assets to help out.
