I'll get a picture up of mine here soon, but this is just the thread I was wanting to start myself! I'm at the stage to where I either want to free-float the barrel, the handguard also providing a mounting point for the light I would install as well, or get a reasonable red dot or low-power magnified optic for my AR. I can't afford both right now, but either is just as appealing for me, I really just need to be convinced as to which would be the better way to go at the moment. The rifle is a mix of makers, the same as Spinebuster's, with a complete PSA Premium heavy barreled upper with a flip-up rear Magpul MBUS, an Arms Rooms* stripped lower receiver, which I fitted with a PSA lower parts kit, and then the ubiquitous Magpul CTR stock, MOE+ grip, and a MOE trigger guard. I'm not big into installing non-standard controls on my rifles, for the sake of not getting used to using them and thus developing a training scar, should I ever have to use a trusted buddy's rifle. My experience with the Krebs Enhanced AK safety, has taught me non-standard controls only provide slight advantages, which can be easily matched with simply training to handle the idiosyncrasies of a particular stock rifle. I still want a BCM charging handle, but only because I want a beefier charging handle, and would thus get the model with the smallest latch.
*The Arms Room is a local manufacturer to me, which I wanted to support, but also save some scratch by buying the lower in-person, and no pay any transfer fees. So far, the lower has held-up very well, not that I've been doing over-the-beach tests or anything, but it's good enough to earn my trust for my reasonable purposes.

Yeah, get those pictures up. Even if it is just a pile of parts on the workbench. It may give folks some ideas on where to take our builds, motivate some to start or complete a build. It can also expose us to manufacturers or sources that we haven't even heard of. Maybe we will move this thread to the General Discussion to include AK's and other builds.

I got a lower in the box from Palmetto a few weeks ago. Havent done anything with it yet.
But I will definitely get myself a Troy Handgrip. The angle is more adapted to modern shooting than the treadtional grip angle.
The traditional grip angle is optmized for the Prone. And I I am old school and consider the prone one of the most important postions I imagine a lot of reflexive fire in my future as well.
As anyone else tried and preferred the Troy handgrip?
Pic to follow...

So Hawkeye and I have been building me an AR from the ground up or as the Johnny Cash song says "One piece at a time." I consider it to be about 95% complete and once I get a MOE+ grip and then painted I will consider it done. We have already test fired it and got it sighted in and it shoots like butter. I call it the Palmetto Spike as the two main groups of parts came from Spike's Tactical and Palmetto State. We calculate that I have around $800 into this rifle. Below is a brief rundown of where the parts came from: Lower Receiver: Spike's Tactical Lower Parts Kit: Spike's Tactical Upper Receiver and Barrel: Palmetto State Armory with their Freedom melonite barrel. BCG: Palmetto State Hand Guards, Stock, and Rear Sight: Magpul MOE The magazine is one of the Magpul 40 rd ones that I am in the process of dyeing. (I think I have a thread on that.) The pic is below and I encourage everyone that has a work in progress at whatever stage to post pictures of your build and the progress you make. This one has taken me over a year to get the parts together to get it this far.

Here are the pictures, I lost what I was typing for two hours just a moment ago, so, I'll get into details later. *Alright, doing this on my phone, so here goes...* The AR is a collection of different makers' parts, all of which are playing well with each other, so far. As can be seen, I went with a Danil Defense Omega 9.0 rail, which is awesome. I don't have the skills to take the front sight/gas block combo off myself & then install a low-pro gas block, & don't want to spend the time & money for gunsmithing, so, I went with the best comprimise I could find. The Omega 9.0 free-floats the barrel & provides more than enough space for the accessories I envision using. Speeking of which, I plan on getting one of the IR capable Scout lights from Surefire which runs on AAs, an OTAL IR laser which would also run on AAs, & then slave the two together with a TAPS Pro switch from The Night Vision Company. I also want to get a red-dot, most likely an Aimpoint T-1, but maybe an Aimpoint M4s, if a low enough price could be found Used ones can be found for very good prices on online forums. Later on, a suppressor, & appropriate parts which make suppressor use more friendly for the user, are definite up for consideration as well. The AK is a 2014 production run WASR, so, it doesn't have any of the feeding issues pre-2013 models had. I have it for training & recreation purposes, mostly. I like the AK platform, & want to maintain familiarity with it, but will likely not go to the same extent of modifying & accessorizing it as the AR. The grip is a US Palm AK Battle Grip, without the compartment, & has a section of bicycle inner tube slipped over it. I might try Magpul's AK grip, maybe. The trigger is a stock Tapco/G2 model, which works just fine, don't know if I'll try any of the aftermarket AK triggers; they'll have to be a big improvement to worth it for me. The muzzle device is a Definitive Arms AK Battle Comp. It works much better than the slant brake, without getting too big nor heavy. I may put a red-dot sight on the rifle, one day, on an RS Regulate side-rail mount. I may even mess around with one of those Wolverine PBS-1 AK suppressors, someday.

Curious why you went with the CTR stock or something like an MFT Minimalist? Well, I put the AR together piece-by-piece. The CTR stock was available at the local sporting goods store, & has some good things going for it in a plug-and-play package. QD swivels, duel locking latches, rubber butt pad. I don't care for the MFT Minimalist, the shape looks like a big snagging hook. It works for me, & I don't think another one would be much of an improvement. I'll post commentary for each rifle with the pictures, shortly.

Wow with a 40 rd Mag the AR suddenly gets a bit of a StGw44 flair.
