Dogs in Afghan (and, so I'm told, Iraq) HATED the locals. They'd bite, bark get aggressive etc.
What they wouldn't do was.... much at all other than acknowledge the presence of the British.
Which was glorious, as a combat indicator. Dogs going doolally at an intersection up ahead and town is empty? Pay attention, someone is failing to ambush you.
I think it's worth thinking about the density, especially in urban centres, of dogs waiting to go hungry and turn a little into a nastier kind of wolf. I say nastier, because stray dogs tend to actively seek humanity, whereas wolves will stay away for the most part because people tend to be trouble.
Some very relevant points, Hawk. Something we should definitely consider, and expand upon.

getting bit by a venemous snake in a catastrophic event will likely often result in death or as a minimum the loss of the appendage..

Lots of non-human threats. A little off topic but ants and bees to those allergic will be a big problem without meds. The tiniest bugs, (bacteria, fungus and viruses) will be huge threats as well.

Do “deer” wearing a black vest with the designation of a 3-letter agency count as non-human threats? Or are they just sub-human?
(Asking for a friend)

Last week while out on a property patrol I had stopped to take a break and picked out a large fallen tree to rest against and low and behold bees started flying out of it. They didn't attack me but I quickly moved away. It could have easily ruined my day.

Coyotes are a thing in our area with multiple roaming packs. They are not afraid to wander into an occupied camp. Had one this past fall wander through my camp around 6am. Got as close as 20 yards from me. It is one reason we have a firearm rule in camp, always have one within arms reach... A coyote (any dog bite) is something that can go south quick, especially if no medical care is available.
