1) Who are Brookwood? I like this pattern because it isn't a military one.
2) Any idea how well these work as a windproof outer layer? I would love one of these with single large 'map' pocket on the front, as a generic outer layer for hiking - but windproof and a basic level of ability to shed moisture would be... nice, and the front pocket is ideal for carrying bits and peices without a chest rig when one would be unnecessary.

Brookwood is the company that owns the mill where the material is physically made. The Covert patterns are their own design. They are all (0241's TOP jackets) made from mainly NYCO material, so they aren't waterproof. You could add some water resistant treatment to any of them to help them shed light water, but there isn't a way to make them truly waterproof. As for the wind, it all depends. Each camo pattern material is done at different mills and thus can be and are different "weights" of material. For example, the A-TACS iX NYCO material is made by Schott Performance. The Covert pattern NYCO material is done by Brookwood. Both are a NYCO material, but the iX is a bit heavier weight and thus will be a little more wind resistant than the Covert material.

I was thinking more 'showerproof', in the same way that 95 pattern jackets are waterproof - mostly owing to tight weave and double layering at the shoulders and some treatment. I am seriously considering a plain one, when I have the funds, and maybe even a black one for a general use 'hoody'.
