Evening everyone. I'm coming here seeking the grand wisdom of the collective group. I've been using an AR as my standard rifle for a few years now. When I first got into Prepping my baby was an norinco AK.Well real life happened and I had to sell my beloved rifle. I'm wanting to come back to the world of AKs but it seems a strange place. A world where an AK cost more then an AR. I'm wanting one for heavy use. Patrolling and carbine classes and such. So what advice do you all have?

Steer clear of all American made AKs. Arsenal SLR107/104, gun broker for an arsenal sgl, or a vepr ought to do you well.

Mines a Polish kit by vector. Has about 10k through it. There's some decent stuff out there but $$$$ is the limit honestly. Arsenal is always good to go. Or find a used mak90 or poly.

Edit*
I should rather say a 2013 or later WASR. I think it was confusing, how I phrased it previously.

Get a post 2013 WASR, it'll do right by you. What happened in 2013 to make the newer ones better?

Get a post 2013 WASR, it'll do right by you. What happened in 2013 to make the newer ones better? From what I've been able to learn from online sources, Cugir really straightened-out their QC issues, & started to produce some very good quality rifles at a very competitive price. Somewhat recently, they started to run a string of military contracts, so, the most current production for the civilian market will be limited, at best. I bought mine off the used market, with only about 20 rounds run through it, with DA's AK muzzle device included, for a very good price at the time. I then proceeded, after some preliminary evaluation, to run it through an AKOUL 4774 AK Operator Class, with the only malfunction being induced by user error (I left my right thumb sticking up while firing from the left shoulder with a magazine grip, & the charging handle struck it while the cycling.) I believe my particular rifle is from the 2014 production runs. I'm not able to confirm at the moment, but will as soon as I'm able. Ok, just checked, it is a 2014. The two numbers which follow the serial number of the rifle stamped onto the trunnion, will be the last two digits of the year it was produced.
