Am kinda wary on buying boots online (fit). but local brick and mortars seem to have limited selection.
in Bates USMC E50501 boots 10.5 regular fits me perfect but they are a real light boot and I wore out one pair in just 1 year (at least the sole is faling apart.. might get it them resoled.) In BackRock from sportsmansguide (chinese made) 10.5 regular is a tad generous on me even when wearing the thickest Dickies work socks (they come in 2 trims, I wore the thicker ones yesterday.. in 5.11 boots, 10.5 regular fits me real well.
I seem to remember back in the day I might have worn 10 wide as a younger troop with ym issues boots in the late 90s thru mid 90s, but am not 100% on that.
Anyone have any size/boot recommendations based on the data above?
I have a bunch of light boots but nothing real solid that will last me. Right now I am a bit nervous that at my BOL I have only 1 new boot (10.5 regular current army issue seems to fit me well.. but it not broken in yet) and 2 well worn ones that have almost no life left in them.
I would LOVE to find Jungle Boots by a reputable manufacturer that meet ths standard of the late 80's early 90 jungle boots which while cheap, fit me perfect and seemed long lasting. Most of the so called "jungle boots" i've seen recently I wouldnt trust for extended SHTF wear. Also would LOVE to find the late 80's, early 90s "speedlacer" Army issue boots again.. As long as I know its the exact same ones I might even risk a blind internet buy in what I remember was my old size 10 wide, as long as they arent super expensive.
Please gentlemen I welcome your sage comments

If you can't wear them after a day walking around, before you purchase... I wouldn't buy them. But that's just me. I can think of two FANTASTIC bootmakers available here in the UK; 50% of people would fight to the death that they are the best in the world. The other half would fight for the other brand.
Boots are too personal. Go try the things on, even if you have to pay a little bit more. We are bipedal. Not looking after our feet is a cardinal sin.

Unfortunately, I haven't had good experiences with ordering boots online. Try looking around on Amazon for ones that have free returns, biggest issue is sizing.

Erik. Look at Altama. They make issue stuff. For the jungles. I had a pair of all leather..metal lace loops..Panama soled ones that lasted for ever till I abused them to much. They aren't cheap 79-100+$. I've debated getting an sort sides jungle because the toe lace beville 790 goretex ones I have are clunky..heavy...but tough as nails. But to thick for summer time.

+1 on Altima for original issue jungle boots. Check ebay for NOS, I bought a pair dated 68 that had never been worn...
I much prefer my Merrill MOAB ventilators for most of the year.

I will go against the crowd a bit, except I...like others...dont like to order online. Too many differences in fit between manufacturers..heck, even sometimes in their different lines there is a different size.
Having said that, I went with Danner's. It is more of a "hunting" boot but great fit and waterproof (yeah, I know...if water gets in it stays in) but I got them more for warmth in winter. I have Rocky's for summer work and Merrills for day to day hikers. I wanted something that would last me years, and if able could have the soles replaced...hence the Danner boots. Bought them at Gander mountain IIRC. So comfortable that I went for a couple mile hike straight out of the box. No problems. Color is more of a darker brown, but not a black.

I am from the school of hard knocks, and what I have learned is that you get what you pay for. When it comes to your feet, it doesn't pay to go cheap. I am on my feet all day most days, so proper arch and ankle support are a must. Then consider having to carry extra weight from what is on your back and/or in your hands. My favorite boots are the Danner Ft. Lewis, Lowa Zephyr HI, and Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX.

Erick,
I have to buy my boots online as that is the only way I can purchase Danner boots. I have been wearing Danner boots for over 30 years and a pair of Danner boots is the only footwear that I can pull on at 05:00, stand and walk all day on concrete, take off at 23:00 and not have sore feet or throbbing calves. I only wear 'Made in USA' Danner boots which can be rebuilt by Danner. If you do not want a waterproof boot, pick the USMC Mojave version, otherwise choose the standard USMC issue boot(Mojave GTX) or one of the dozen variations of military/hunting boots with Gore-tex and Thinsulate built on the same design. The 10" Black Fort Lewis is pretty much the ultimate 'jungle boot' in my opinion, my pair have been around the globe a few times.
Danner boots are not for everyone, as they can be killers to break in. I have averaged about 12 years of hard-use per pair including be sent back to be rebuilt by Danner 2 or 3 times. I rotate between 3 pairs, a pair of black Acadia for duty, a pair of Marine Mojave GTX for everyday wear, a pair of Marine Mojave for casual wear.
I would expect that any decent Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shop store would have Danner boots on the shelf. There used to be a chain of sporting goods stores in the Mid-altantic called 'Dick's Sporting Goods' that used to stock Danners as well.
Hope that helps abit,
IronFeral

I guess my Danners where an anomaly as they were comfortable from the get go. Very limited "break-in" period. I would say I only had about a 2 hour break in before I went on a hike that was about 4 hours but continued to wear them all day. Now, I wear smart wool type boot socks with silk sock liners. I always were the sock liners even after i break in boots.

I've had 2 pairs of Altbergs now, and the only thing that needed doing, for me, was an insole replacement because I have spazzy feet. Never had an issue with Lowa, either. Though they are heavy. And Meindl are just the same.
