Necromancing the thread, had major issues registering on the forum last go around. Figured I'd comment about all the good points in the video. Never thought about putting all the light sources of light in one central spot, good tip. My family was good bit outside the Matthew cone, but we were out of power four days from Hermine and half a day from Colin. I set up our house to be without power. As our electric service is from a rural electric coop and outages are frequent. Along with well and septic we have gas range and gas tankless water heater. So I was able to take as many hot showers as needed with all the work. Also have one room of the house with a window AC built into the wall. It was a good spot to cool off and keep the family comfortable when not working. While many got by without power, generators and preparations just make life better.
Before Hermine hit there was a run on gasoline. I had plenty stocked at home, but stopped to fill up before leaving work. When I pulled up the pump everyone was complaining how slow the regular fuel was flowing. So I paid for premium, which ran normal speed. As I was filling up the regular ran out. Got out of there as everyone was getting upset. Every station I passed on the ride home was out. They were out for about 2-1/2 days after the storm.
Thankfully there were not any major meltdowns.
