Afternoon guys,
Wife and I just moved to Houston, TX for jobs. It was really a risk as we are center of town but on a two year contract. We took it so that our job situation later will be much more independent of city life.
Anyway, always looking for tips for big city planning as well as friends who don't mind being mutual supporting / group members. Our big time bug our is back home to where all our family is that has much more resources if needed which is two states away.
I use a lightweight AR with 9mm pistol. The wife uses a M&P 15-22 along with her 9mm, a 22cal suppressor is in the works for her as well.

If you don't have it, the rather expensive tome "Failure Of Civility" should be your next investment. A fair amount is dedicated to people in your shoes.

Yea, that's a lot of ouch for most likely information that is common on the web. We have been semi prepping and training for a few years. We put our life on hold in April and traveled the whole US and Canada to both have a great time but find our place to settle down and have a retreat eventually.
We have lived minimally and the job here is only temporary but a big city requires friends in case it goes tits up.

The book is published in batches, and the high price reflects the quality of information and the demand for it. Typically it is sold through their own websites for around $40, iirc. Google the title to see who has the best price at any given time. Amazon isn't the end all be all.
It was written by two Green Berets who have set up secure zones in wartorn third world crapholes. You cannot get that information online, as it is insider in nature. That would be somewhat akin to trying to learn to fly a fighter jet from watching YouTube vids.

Thanks for the heads up on the book. Googled it and there is an 80 page preview on scribd
OP if you are looking for local support I fear there is no substitute for local networking. Hit the local ranges, the gym, go to an appleseed shoot or two, search permaculture gardening and prepper meetups in your area. Suprising how many people are orienting themselves right now to our way of thinking...
