This US 2qt Canteen appears to be a fantastic bit of kit. I recently bought one because it's cheap, collapsible and fits nicely in my webbing (Though to be fair I bought it HOPING it would, knowing I could use it elsewhere if it didn't...) I have seen some cheapo hydration hoses and it does indeed appear to have the appropriate fitting, but the stuff I'm finding on the internet is of questionable quality. Anyone have a legit, quality source for the hoses, or a GOOD modification/homebrew hose that I can knock up that is going to be properly hygenic and of at least similar quality to camelbak/source type offerings? Cheers in advance. Panz.

The adapter fitting in the cap is for an NBC mask drinking tube. Brigade Quartermaster use to sell a kit to attach a hydration tube to suck from making it perform much like a badder hydration system. This was back in the 90s. Its pretty obsolete now with bladders ruling the scene in terms of ready t use hydration systems..and from what I remember i had a hell of a time sucking from one because they dont collapse like a bladder

I dislike the general size of bladders, and I just don't get along with them very well. I like this because of the formed bottle neck, but it still has the benefits of being collapsible. Part of the reason I looked into it is because of the hydration tube ability whilst retaining a water bottle function. Seems a robust bit of kit, weighs bugger all and so it'll see some use, even if it's only as some sort of reserve water carrier (I really do think it might see more use as a primary drinker, if I'm honest just on what I've seen so far...).

I haven't thought about these in years and years. Mainly because I didn't think anyone used them. Its sorta like a VHS tape in my mind.. But as I said I'm glad you brought this up. This past weekend I did 15 miles through the mnts and used a bladder for the first time in years and I thoroughly remembered why i don't like them. Rethinking this Im ordering a tube..
Also be aware some 2Q collapsible bottles are much more pliable/collapsible then others. Ive seen some with the texture of a modern water bladder. Mostly older ones made in the late 60s and 70. Later ones seem to be thicker..
You've inspired me, Sir.. its what groups like this are made for..

Thanks for that link. I had no idea these were still available. I like using both a bladder and canteens/water bottles, despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the idiot's on youtube. Might have to invest in one of these and give it a try.

Yeah, I think it will work better with something softer like the 2 qt.
