Panzer0170, that "using a smoke grenade pouch as a TQ pouch" idea is gold. Thanks. IIRC, they are narrow enough to fit on the side of an IFAK that has one or two molle strips.

I carry mine attached via rubber bands/ranger bands/etc. I am not opposed to those that wish to carry in a pouch, however, be sure you can get the pouch open with one hand/either hand while lying in a horrible position and keeping your head low. Now to practice that, go run some sprints with gear, get winded and the heart racing and then get down behind something while putting your TQ on. Don't forget your gloves if you wear them. Have someone time you. Get in a different position, different arm/leg and get good at getting your TQ whether in a pouch or not. When you get good at it, do it in the dark....If you are spending more than 30 seconds getting the TQ out of the pouch, then thats 30 seconds you are bleeding out. In a SHTF scenario, its likely you won't have a blood transfusion coming.

Lazy soldier that can't be arsed swapping between a BOK and a SMK pouch when some grownup decides we're carrying medical gear on body, now on the rig, now on the body again. This way I carry it there unless someone gives me smoke, and I carry it on my person as well; If I have to take it out of my SMK pouch because TTPs dictate that's fine. I always assume I'm going for gear on myself, but it means no matter which command I work under everyone's going to be able to find at least the 'oh fuck' gear.

That's cool, but a smoke pouch from the standard issued molle kit would do the same. For less $$$.

A single CAT will fit in a 40mm pouch as well. A CAT and shears or CAT and dressing will fit in a grenade pouch as well. How I've been running mine. An issue dbl m4 pouch will hold them as well. Just heads up.

I'm slowly reading though the older posts on the forum, bear with me and I'll eventually get there. Medical is an area where I feel I can contribute. I've had some pretty good school house training with SOCM and a bit of real world stuff to know that the school house stuff works. So, a few things you may want to consider on TQs. Above, in different posts, the quantity and carry locations have been mentioned. All are good choices. I didn't see one I did not agree with. Just make sure you know where all of your buddies are carrying their TQs as well. It might be good to standardize on specific locations. I did however fail to see one I was hoping to. In the particular situation we are considering, we will all have a weapon. At least we all hope so. I am partial to stocks (AR or AK) with a diagonal cross-member across the bottom such as Magpul CTR and MOE stocks. There are others of course. I use Coflex/Vetwrap (Google it if you don't know what it is, but Vetwrap is much cheaper and probably available at Tractor Supply) to attach a TQ to this cross-member so if I have my weapon and am naked (I guess it could happen), I will always have at least one TQ. You don't have to put it on your stock like I do, but having one attached to your weapon might be something you'd want to insider. Pouches were mentioned above as well. I've had good luck with Tactical Tailor TQ pouches. www.tacticaltailor.com/tourniquetpouch.aspxThey are relatively inexpensive, easy to use, and secure a TQ with it being overly secure, thus difficult to access under stress. As for what I prefer, CATs and SOFT-T Wides are both fine, IMO. The CAT is better for using one handed and the SOFT-T Wide is a bit more durable having metal parts. Both are great. TQs are one of the few areas where you may want to double up. you may not get it right the first time and you don't want to remove hat you have to redo it, so a second TQ is in order. This applies to how many you want to carry.. Also, remember, just like the hair cut, high and tight. You don't want to use a TQ to compress the artery against two bones (in a lower placement) when it is much more effective to compress the artery against only one bone in a higher placement. These are just my opinions. YMMV. Take care, K

NC: I think the majority of people are suggesting their locations with the idea that people are talking about their 'primary' TQs. I would assume people would have some spares in their kit bags, vehicles etc for use on others as required, or in case they forget theirs etc. I think that's the reason most people are talking about their clothes as a location. I want to be able to TQ myself at all times, and I think it's realistic to assume you WILL always have clothes (given we're not talking about home defense here, for the most part) but you may NOT have a rifle on your person. Rifle (or sling, it makes no difference) is definitely another good idea, if it works with your weapon.
An excellent point.
