This is an excellent video. How you use it is up to you, but it makes an EXCELLENT point about hard routine; Cooking rations in the field becomes a whole different ballgame if you know this. I'd also like to address it from a generic survival point of view;
If you're hiking and you get fucked up, you call SAR or local rescue somehow (let's assume no signal, and your buddies hike out to a landline or such...) As much as it is probably the dimmest, I would use the Firefly in this situation every time.
I have one. It is programmable. You can literally programme SOS into it. Patterns is something the human eye can't ignore. A fire is something you have to be not-fucked to keep going. So many choices.

Interesting....i was surprised how bright a lighter was. the firefly seemed less intense than I would have thought. If I am lost, I guess a fire (maybe an acre or so...lol) to keep me warm and safe and light the scene for the rescuers to find me. However, in SHTF you can see how bright even a small camp fire will be to people with NVGs...even from the ground.

At a recent "prepper Battle Lab" of sorts, a couple years ago I was able using a borrowed PVS14 to spot a very small campfire from 300+ yards through relatively heavy undergrowth.
