Anyone have any experience with Vortex's scopes? Toying with the idea of putting a scope on my rifle.

Didn't want start a new thread, but I knew Primaryarms had already been discussed in this thread. My PA AA red dot finally has a problem. Modes 1-5 are not coming on without pressure being applied to the knob, goes off as soon as pressure is released. Contacted Primaryarms and told them what's happening, they had me check to see if maybe I just needed a new battery cap but nothing worked to fix it. Getting my return started now, they said they'll either fix it or replace it. I'll let you guys know what happens, we'll see how PA is with their warranty.

How long have you had your PA red dot? Vortex has a lifetime warranty.

Vortex still fills a nice market segment for mid range glass, but its a much narrower segment than it used to be. Best thing about them is their warranty.
I currently have a pair of their 6x32 Viper HD binos, and a SOLO R/T. Both great glass for the price and can be found for way under their retail. If your rifle wears a red dot you really need some compact glass.
Have owned and sold:
1-4 Viper PST- Was great 5 years ago, showing its age now. A Primary Arms 1-6 with ACSS (same scope as Vortex Strike Eagle, but better reticle) gives you equal/better performance for less $.
2.5-10x32 Viper PST FFP EBR-1 (MRAD) Reticle- GREAT SCOPE. Probably the best RECCE/SPR scope when you balance price and performance. Replaced it with a Nightforce 2.5-10x42 NXS. Nightforce is without a doubt better, but if I hadn't gotten an amazing deal on it I would have stuck with the Viper.

I've seen quite a few failed Vortex. Enough I'd never buy one. They are poor economy along with other "affordable" optics. Warranty means little to me when you may not be able to get warranty service in the future.

Warranty means little to me when you may not be able to get warranty service in the future. I agree with you to a point... Only purchasing drop dead reliable brands leaves you with only 4 or 5 makes, and leads to very expensive builds. Aimpoint, Nightforce, Kahles/Swaro, S&B, maybe USO or the Proven SWFA models. That's it. Sometimes it comes down to hitting a price point you can live with, especially when dealing with a weapon that in not your primary. Sometimes to try out a concept it makes sense to run a serviceable but not top tier optic. Or worse sometimes you cannot get an optic with the features you want from a reliable brand. For example, if Kahles would put an ACSS type reticle in their 1-6 I would be all over it, but they don't. Luckily a PA 1-6 is cheap enough you can have a spare. Only time I would never buy budget is on a precision scope where I know I am going to be dialing lots of adjustments.

Agreed. I just don't want to see people depend on the "affordable" options while having many, better to have one quality set-up; that includes quality used optics.

So update on the PA customer service. Just got informed today that they aren't able to fix the problem, so they are refunding the full cost of the red dot and giving me 20% off the optic to replace it. Went with their 1-4 illuminated scope with the extended mount, gave me 20% off of the mount as well so I was only out $30 after shipping. Overall, I'd say they have pretty kickass customer service, just wish the warranty was longer.

I love my Vortex optics - I have a Vortex Venum on my 300 Blackout AR pistol, and a Viper PST 2.5 - 10 on my AR10 build. LOVE them both.
Haven't beat the up much yet, but so far so good - holding zero just fine!
