Yes, I have, but I could never find a good location for a belt mounted rifle magazine that was convenient for me.
With my AK UW Gear rig, I simply keep the emergency reload magazine tucked into the kangaroo dump pouch behind the chest rig. I find that this works pretty well, as there is no flap to remove, and makes for a very rapid reload.
I would do this on an M14 rig as well, but I still feel that I would be at a disadvantage with only three magazines in the actual pouches.

Here is the interesting question. Why are the .308 magazines only available in 20 rds. If the idea is that 4 magazines X 20rds is great why not have 3 magazines X 30 not better for the .308?

I'll tell you why: Those things are heavy! I just have some 25 rd mags and you notice the weight on those things. Also dimensionally the 30rd mags I've seen for the FAL are redonkulously long. Not sure how they compare to a 30rd 7.62 AK mag but still long.

just got my bandoleer today... its awesome! thanks again to UW gear for a great product. as a side note, these magazines are bulky and heavy... i support the 3 mag only notion. four would just be too cumbersome for me.

Strange question, but anyone know if those 308 UW Gear pouches will work for a mini BOK pouch? Looking to put in: -Compact Hyfin chest seal x2 -SWAT T -Roll of gauze -Gloves -Possible mini strap/belt cutter Trying to make my chest rig as slim as possible and all of the other med pouches I've seen are a bit large when you consider mounting it on the front of a 5.56 open top pouch. Primary CAT will be in a BFG TQ NOW thing next to it. Didn't wanna create a new thread or continue to pester Hawkeye.

I'll spin this weight thoght a step further. it is not just extra weight for your total load but it is also extra weight on the gun itself. Weight on the gun sucks more of your wind than weight anywhere else since you have to maintain it it as a hold and also maneuver it during use. Kinda can be compared to a cars wheels. weight on the wheel is said to count triple against a car's performance/braking/handling than weight anywhere else on the car.. for very much the same reasons ( weight is not just carried but rotated)

PS: This is also why a thigh rig holster is biomechanically a poor choice for infantry type OPS (all the movement of the legs needs to maneuver the extra mass on thigh wasting energy) But such a holster a good fit for occupation/police OPS (where MUCH less leg movement occurs from marches and the ease of access trumps the much smaller energy lost by attaching it to a moving appendage)

Retro post on this thread, and since its been a few years. Has anything else developed differently for carrying M1A / FAL type magazines? Been thinking of looking at some type of chest carriers that can be grabbed and thrown on over your gear that one might already be carrying like a plate carrier, something like the original Rhodesian cloth carriers looks like it might do the job, but wondering if there is something else that is better.

ATS in Ky ships pretty quick at decent prices and has a couple of 7.62 chest rigs. They use bungi instead of flaps for retention which some like and some do not. Like flaps myself but know others that do not.
