Agreed. I am a fan of the ELCAN optics (we use a SpecterOS with an RMR mounted on top) And I really like the glass, but I don't like the red dot where it is; really tall overall height. I'd love to get one of the Specter DRs on a 7.62 AR and see how nicely it played. Obviously heavier than 556, but I reckon just as usable for say ME as a 556 rifle would be for my fiancee (given the nearly a foot in size difference ) Cost is, obviously, an issue.

Welcome to the board geardo!!! IMO the only thing keeping the 6.5 Grendel from being a good carry round is it's cost. Otherwise no reason of not making it a carry round. Keep in mind the 6.8 SPC is designed as a carry round from ground up and it has similar energy and bullet weights...but its cost has gotten in the way its all around adoption. Like many I like my carry round to be something thats affordable enough to stack deep so I can sustain operations for years after the grid is down. Just curious, how do you think the 100 grain FMJ steel cased Wolf Grendel loads would compare in terms of combat effectiveness versus the expanding 5.56 loadings, fired out of a 16" CQB rifle? That's the question I keep coming back to. The larger round with more energy will definetly be more effective against living things. It will also penetrate better ( think bad guys hiding behind light to medium walls etc) The 5.56 penetrator rounds tend ot be inaccurate and have poor effect. The fancy new 5.56 load are good but they are good for the caliber. it depends what do you want to hunt? What is your philosphy of use? general self defense? Stick with 5.56 it is entirely sufficient for humans. Hunting ? The 6.5 would be great. Self defense in a plains area or an AO with long sight lines? Then the 6.5 may be worth considering.
