Also, glad I could be of help to folk, @ps. I'd like to be able to teach this stuff to folk, but if pointing people in the direction of a book is all I can do? That'd be enough

That'd be enough @panzer....when you get to the states, maybe we'll have to work on getting you down south to teach a few of us some finer points of nav.

On those God Awful USGS maps of yours? Sounds like a fun little challenge! How flat is it where you are? Because flat is a pain in the Arse. Mountains are hard work, and you can't cheat the mountain, but they do make for helpful navigational features

Flat?? Lol. In my normal 2.25 mile run, I have a grand total of about 14 feet of elevation change.

Flat?? Lol. In my normal 2.25 mile run, I have a grand total of about 14 feet of elevation change. Flat then. I can go out my street and left a quarter mile and go up 75ft no issues The other way is worse. And I'd say round my way is pretty flat, compared to most places if I tried driving say 10 miles in any direction
