I've been out so long my woodland stuff is all gone, 'cept my ECWS top.
Still see a little at the surplus stores, but not as much as the old days. I dread seeing all the ACU that be appearing once the Army switches again.

Yeah I know. The ACU/UCP stuff is pretty worthless to me.

I agree... there's something to be said about old school woodland. It still works. The problem as I see it, is that camo patterns now elicit a response based on the groups that wear them. And the military has done nothing but acerbate the problem. Camo patterns now have more to do with identifying the group that's wearing them than being effective in the bush. A good example of this, why is it when the MC had 2 perfectly good digital patterns that NSW had to go out and make 2 of their own? Then you have the AF and big Navy piling on with their goofy patterns. Not to mention big Army that does this big study only to justify picking their pimp pattern. It's all bullshit. It's about having a distinctive branch of service uniform rather than camo.
Woodland has come to represent the backwoods redneck yahoos that any "serious" student of tactical training wouldn't be caught dead in. And that too is bullshit.
When it's all said and done, the 2 patterns I would take a good look at are marpat woodland digi and old school woodland BDU. They are both readily available at reasonable prices. Therefore you could actually stock up on multiple sets of clothing and equipment, instead of having one pimp set up for airsoft or whatever.

I have alot of old school Woodland, so I plan on using my Atacs Fg gear with Woodland. Im thinking its going to blend as well as breakup a single pattern. Kinda chunky digital. Cant wait for my rig so I can see it all together.

Excellent vid. Glad Im not the only one in the Coyote Camp. When I started buying packs, pouches and etc. I chose it for being great by itself or working without about any darn camo worth wearing (UCP doesnt count)
Thanks Again!

Hawkeye you mention in your video to have 4-5 sets of cammies. I am embarrassed to ask this, but how many do you think someone needs at a minimum? I certainly don't wear the same clothing every day, but is the plan to keep these extra sets stashed someplace in a shtf situation? I honestly have always had just one set of often unmatching patterns. Now I am realizing that is inadequate. Thanks for yours and anybody else's insight.

I'll let Hawkeye give his answer, but in my case I don't want to be doing laundry every night in a SHTF event so I've got cleaner cammies to put on in the morning. By having multiple sets if one get wet, dirty or torn you have another set waiting for you back at base after patrol. Also, as the saying goes, two is one and one is none.

Pretty much what PS said. I like multiple sets for survival/shtf use. Some to wear, some to stash, etc.... When your using them all the time, in a catastrophic situation, chances are you wont be throwing them in the washing machine at night. Whatever washing they do get is going to be much harder on them than a washing machine. They are going to see a lot of wear and tear when its what your wearing everyday, thus multiple sets is important. How many sets? I don't think you can really put a number on it. I'd say a minimum would be 2-3 sets. The more the better in my opinion, as long as you have all your other bases covered (food, water, medical supplies, weapon, mags, ammo, gear, etc......). Its all a balancing act for sure.

The question is, what will your resupply situation look like? Right now, you just order more on line. What if that's cut off? When I was active duty, I would trash at least 1-2 sets per year, with constant use. I usually had about 4 sets on hand, and wore each set at least two days in garrison, and up to week in the field. I would say two sets is an absolute minimum for every day use. That should set you up initially.

So if you guys were on a budget and had to choose between OSW or DPM, which would it be? It looks like DPM may be more effective. Do you think woodland MARPAT is more effective than both? Is it better than ATACS FG? I live in 90% forested NH. At this point I can't afford Pencott Greezone. Thanks for everybody's thoughts.

In my opinion, Pencott Greenzone is top dog as far as visual concealment. But, it is still not as affordable and available as it needs to be for folks like me/us to get the amount we feel we want. Hence my/our personal choice of OSW and DPM for the time being. Woodland MARPAT/Digital woodland is an excellent alternative as well. Those 3 are my current favorites (outside of Pencott). Between them, I would say look at which one is the most available and affordable for your budget and go with that.

An interesting note, once they started issuing multicam to everyone over in AFG, SOF went back to old school woodland. Now, this is probably mostly because they wanted a different uniform than everyone else, but also because it probably works better than MC under NODs.
just food for thought Hawkeye, once everyone figures that out, woodland might come back into tactical vogue. you're at the cutting edge and didn't even know it!
