As the title states, is it bad to be okay with being an ass? Specifically if you get called an ass for being supportive of actions that would help instead of the feelings and hashtags that everyone seems to think help nowadays?
So as I usually do, I started a mini storm of sorts on social media. Article popped with a family member of one of the victims of the Pulse shooting giving out hugs to make everyone feel better. I responded that "hugs and feelings won't stop your friend from bleeding out after a psycho bursts into the club. A TQ might though. Actions and preparations matter, feelings and hashtags don't". Immediately called an dick who had no compassion. Am I the only one that gets fed up with the responses to tragedies being that everyone wants to just hold hands and sing kumbaya instead of at the very least learning improvised medicine to stabilize people until EMS arrives?

I saw a clip of 3 cars at a red light turning green. They all pulled straight away and all got SMASHED through by an 18 wheeler that for reasons unclear didn't stop.
"so tragic" "disgusting the driver jumped the light" etc all over the comments.
"So, no one looked to see that the cross traffic had stopped? No sympathy..." Was apparently NOT an appropriate response. But literally a half second visual check would have saved 3+ peoples lives. The truck may not have stopped for several reasons. Brake failure, going at a speed that he'd stop IN the intersection etc. Or he may have actually skipped it. Even if he WAS in the wrong.... Prosecuting after the fact fixes NOTHING for the people who made a choice to just go without looking. They still dead.

Short answer?
Nope!
There's a fundamental difference in your worldview and theirs - you believe in doing something first and foremost while they believe in feeling and telling everyone how they feel first and foremost.
Active versus reactive.
Yet another example of how self-absorbed most people have become.
And how dare you intrude on their version of reality with something that contradicts it, makes them feel bad or shows their inadequacy!😎
Doesn't matter that you ACTUALLY know what you're talking about!
Remember - the best thing about most people is that they're biodegradable!

Along the same lines, there was an incident local to me where three teenage girls stole a car. They took it speeding and fled from the cops, driving themselves into a muddy body of water. Everyone was up in arms that the deputies responding didn't jump into the water to save them, when they actually made several attempts to get to the car. Nobody dared to bring up the fact that they shouldn't have stolen a car and then gone speeding into water....

Perfect example is the Millwall FC supporter who was enjoying his pint when the most recent attack in London happened.
Three attackers came into the pub, knives in hand shouting at the patrons.
So he sits down his pint, closes the distance and shouts "Fuck you, I'm Millwall!".
They focus on him while the rest of the patrons flee.
One unarmed man against three with knives - you better believe he got stabbed multiple times!
But, he didn't back down and he allowed those less courageous to escape.
Was he a vet or a trained fighter? No, unless you count a history of football violence!
He was the right man in the right place at the right time.

Instead of "run, hide, tell", they should start a Millwall campaign. When somebody bursts into a bar intent on violence all able bodied adults immediately start pounding the snot out of them

People who only feel, can only react emotionally. Any kind of challenge to them triggers emotional responses which they can't handle, because they're constantly avoiding difficult subjects or people who would force them to deal with their emotions. I, frankly, don't give a fuck anymore. When it comes to security & public safety issues, there is too much at risk to be concened with how some "community" will feel, because they can't handle their shit. If you're more wrapped around the axel about hugging it out, then I don't want you involved, in any way, with developing counter-terrorist strategies. Go have your little cry sesion in the corner, & let the people who are interested in stopping, or at least will to mitigate bad times, do what needs to be done.
Roy Larner is a hero. I hope I could be as brave as him, should I happen to be in a situation as he was.
Don't let your problems become someone else's, because they may solve them in ways you don't like.

About the closest comparison I can think of would be 'bloods' and 'crips', but without drugs and guns. I remember as a kid when it was matchday you used to not be able to stand somewhere in Leeds without seeing a copper. Mounted coppers everywhere, they'd stop em and search 'em before they got off the train, all sorts. Football fans of the 80s/90s were an interesting sort Leeds/Millwall being second in terms of tivalry to Leeds l/Man U, but Millwall a LOT more violent.

Or Chelsea! Or Arsenal!😜

I'm known to be an asshole at some gatherings because I rather talk geopolitics and world events instead of my favorite beer and sport statistics.

I'm known to be an asshole at some gatherings because I rather talk geopolitics and world events instead of my favorite beer and sport statistics. I'm not big on starting conversations on geopolitics, mostly because a fool is considered wise until he opens his mouth (speaking of myself); but I'm usually thinking about gun stuff, prepping, finances, building my NPT, and other important things to me. I'm not a sports guy and too much of a lightweight to drink, so I usually just sit quietly and observe others while enjoying being around friends and family.
